Hey, thanx for the input. Let me just clear a few things up though. We aren't struggling horribly bad. We always are able to pay our bills, put food in our house, clothes on our children, and money into their savings. We're just really struggling with trying to save some money for this wedding, since I have a habit of paying so much for my kids. I love my children and always make sure they have everything they need. I'm not good at saving for myself, but make sure my kids have everything they need plus money for their college. I understand completely what you're saying though, but I just wanted to kinda clear things up a bit.
I certainly hope I didn't offend you by saying I think $10,000 is steep. I do know that costs-of-living is vastly different in different areas though. For example, in Ohio, Columbus weddings can be upwards of $10-20k for modest weddings. But I'm in the sticks and a gorgeous wedding that looks like a 20-50k can be anywhere from 5 to 8k.

Amvicev you stated that you have been engaged for 2 years and haven't been able to save for a wedding. You actually thought that your parents should help with the expenses. I understand spending on the kids. Heck I have two and for baseball season alone I have spent close to $800! That doesn't even include all-stars which in itself usually runs about $1,000. I just do not understand why you absolutely feel the need to have a wedding. You mentioned that you are marrying the love of your life. What is the difference if you marry him at the courthouse....and save the money for a rainy day? Like I said before, when you are a parent, your needs and wants are gone.
Here are some money saving tips on flowers: go to www.growersbox.com they have really in-expensive ways to save on wedding flowers. You can do hand tied roses about 12-16 for yours and 8-10 for the brides maids, tie them together with ribbon and you are done. You can also buy jeweled pins to go inside your bouquet at Michaela or any crafts store. Be sure to keep them in water so they stay fresh and follow the directions that come with the flowers. The average cost of a DYI box with the growers box is $350-500 for you wedding flowers. You can then use the bouquets as centerpieces at the reception by putting them inside vases and have some light candles around the base.
As for a DJ, no you do not need one. If you have an IPod use that instead. You can rent speakers locally and plug them into your IPod with the songs you want on a playlist. Be sure to have someone be responsible for the IPod that way you can just enjoy your day. That is the most important part.
