Afternoon or Evening?
Posted: May 22, 2009 1:04 PM

Our wedding is at 5:00 pm. I am having trouble finding what is the correct way to word the time in our invitations. Would it be at five o'clock in the evening or five o'clock in the afternoon? Anybody else getting married/got married at 5? How did you word it? Should I just say at five o'clock?

Thanks for your help!

I am not an ediquette expert or anything, but I would consider 5:00 evening.

ok I found this on http://www.theamericanwedding.com...hope/ it helps!! :)

Time should always be followed by in the morning, noon, in the afternoon, in the evening or midnight. To clarify which is which, 12:01 a.m. - 11:59 a.m. is morning, 12:00 p.m. is noon, 12:01 p.m. - 5:59 p.m. is afternoon, 6:00 p.m. - 11:59 p.m. is evening, and 12:00 a.m. is midnight.

Dear Pickles,

"Evening" starts at 6:00. Thus, 5:00 pm is still in the afternoon.

Just say "Five o'clock in the afternoon."

I agree with it being in the afternoon.

Especially since your wedding is in August. The sun will still be up for a while.
