I got engaged on March 18, 2008 and we were originally planning to get married in June or August of 2010. With the economy the way it is and myself graduating from college in May of 2010 with my BSBA in Finance, we figured that it would be best to wait until we're both employed somewhere full time. Right now its looking like a late May wedding, or early June of 2011 (I'll be 22 and my fiance 24). The date isn't chosen yet since I have to decide if I want to try and go for the basilica in Philadelphia or our parish.

My parents are offering to help pay for the wedding, but they have their own business, so saving money is tight right now for them as well as it is for us. My fiance graduates this May, so he will have a headstart on saving up money to pay for the wedding and to save for a future house.

It sucks having to wait another year, but I hope everything in the economy can get better since I have to fly my family in from Italy to Philadelphia.

It is definitely nice to have people to talk to on this thread. My FH and I are looking at April 2011 and waiting that long is killing me. Our 6 year anniversary is coming in a couple months and we already have been engaged for over 2 years, it is rough. Waiting has a lot to do with his parents because they cannot bare to break ways with their baby boy and the idea of him getting married any earlier than that is unbearable for them. We are also trying to get as much as we can set up before marriage. We both have our degrees, him with his BA and MBA, but trying to find a good job in our industries in this economy is near to impossible, as well as trying to find an affordable place to live on our current salary does not exist on LI NY. I will be 24 in 2011 and FH will be 25. A spring wedding is something that I think will be very exciting. I know what I want the favors to be and our current color scheme is a light blue with white and a chocolate accent. How does that sound? I would love to have unique aspects to the wedding but am not sure what to include...I am glad that most of you are in the same boat.

Welcome aboard April!! I think that the light blue, white, and brown sound really nice. We might be doing something similar, but our colors would be the tiffany blue, ivory, and black. We might do pink, ivory, and black. Haven't really gotten that far yet though!!

Did everyone enjoy Valentine's Day? What did you end up doing?

FH and I went out to eat and then we ended up going home because our puppy was very sick from his shots that he had gotten earlier that day and we couldn't bear to leave him alone when he wasn't feeling well .

My Valentine's day was nice. We went shopping and went out to eat at one of our favorite restaurants. I was sick for most of the day, so it put a small damper on the day. That sounds sad about your sick puppy, but at least you guys were together. Having to wait to get married is one of roughest things we have gone through as a couple.
Your colors sound nice too! We are looking to have some non-traditional aspets to our wedding. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hey! I'm new to the board... and I'm not a bride, but a mom. :-)

Keegan (my daughter) and Alex just got engaged on Valentine's Day.

They haven't set a "FOR SURE" date yet, but I think we're looking at Jan. 22, 2011. The ONLY thing we've done so far is pick colors and a "theme" - they want to do a pistchio green, chocolate brown, and ice blue with silver accents. They also want to do a "tree" theme - focusing on the roots of our family and faith and the growth of their love and new "branch" of our families.

I'm having a ball... I promise I won't go all MomZilla on you. I just like to look around and get ideas to share.

Michele

April - I'm sorry that you were sick on Valentine's Day but at least you guys went out to dinner that was nice. It was really sad seeing my puppy so sick and sad himself. He didn't want to get up and walk or anything. We were so happy to see him playing again on Sunday!

Some non-traditional ideas are maybe bringing something from your first date into your wedding or naming the tables after the different things you have done together rather than regular table numbers. FH and I are thinking about doing those things, but our first date was to see fireworks and I'm not sure how that's going to work. I have to agree with you that sometimes the hardest thing is waiting so long to get married. We have been having a problem with that ourselves, but we have gotten through it.

KeegansMom - welcome aboard and feel free to share and give advice to us!!

That definitely sounds like it may be a good idea to do something different for the table names. My FH has duel citizenship with the US and the UK so maybe different places in England or English cultural items to use for table names...that may be different too. I cannot wait to get married to him and I want to plan things so badly, but I would hate to waste the money we have to change our minds about something. It is really nice to have someone to talk to it about besides family or people who will be affected by the wedding to get an outside party's ideas and thoughts.

Using fireworks as part of the wedding theme will be very interesting and trying, but I am sure you both will think of something. Maybe using the colors of fireworks or including glitter or sparkles or sparklers...those can be romantic, especially at night.

We were actually thinking about sparklers but I am not sure if they will allow that because of the fire hazard - maybe they will outside only.

FH and I just actually looked at a place this weekend that we really like, but the only problem is that we can only fit 230 max and we don't know if our guest list will be that small. We worked on the guestlist together and we have around 210, but we have to sit down with our parents to make sure we didn't forget anyone. But the place was sooo nice - and we would be able to have our reception in a room with all windows that overlooks the ocean with a wrap around balcony and an additional room to have an inside and outside cocktail hour as well as the reception room. We really hope that we can keep our guest list down to have it here, and I think that we can do it!! Once we go over the guest list and get a number if it is under the 230 we are going to have them put our date aside as a first right of refusal. That means if someone else is interested in the same date and wants to book it they call us first and we have 24 hours to make a decision to book it or not. We would obviously book it, but if we set it up as a right of refusal we have more time to save up for the deposit.

I'll let you guys know how we make out!!

I'm getting married July 7th, 2011, which is actually our 4 year anniversary. We want to have our wedding on the beach, and we were thinking of having white, blue, and orange as our color scheme. What do you guys think?

I will be a fall '11 bride too! It's nice to see so many similar situations! My fiance graduated last spring but I won't be graduating college until May '11, and that's the main reason we're waiting so long, because I want to be able to really start life together without school in the back of my head. And I can't imagine trying to plan a wedding while doing all this homework!

Hi everyone,
Other than the year (2011) nothing is set in stone for us yet. I thought a fall wedding would be really pretty, but I want to do our birthstone colours (aquamarine and opal), which seem more appropriate for a spring wedding.

Any suggestions for choosing one month or season over another? Is June more expensive? If so, is it a significant difference from prices offered in other months? And is it just venues, or all the wedding vendors that bump their prices?

What kinds of things were you considering when you made your decision?

Thanks!
