You don't have to see the appraisal to find out these details.  All you need is the GIA report.  I haven't seen the appraisal for mine, although he later told me my center stone appraised for 16k.

Oh gosh, I love my ring so much!  Then again, I should, I picked out the setting and cut of the center stone myself.

Center stone is a 1.25 carat diamond, emerald cut.  There are 8 channel set round stones, 4 on each side totaling 1/2 carat.

The only thing I told my DH when we started looking at rings was that I wanted something a little more unique and not really big because I have small fingers. We looked and looked and looked, I found some I liked but not loved. Then he called me up one day and told me that he found my ring.

The engagement is a 1/4 marquise cut with a wrap around white gold band.

the diamond looks much bigger in the setting and on my small finger.

And the wedding band my DH designed all my himself and i love it! i don't remember the weight of the small diamonds, truthfully i don't care. :) i love telling people that DH picked it out and designed it.

But this ring is not the one he proposed with, he wanted it to be a surprise and i was having a hard time deciding between a marquise cut and heart shaped. he proposed with a gold heart shape ring, i don't know anything about it but i love it because it picked it out. it's the ring i wore for most of our engagement.

My ring is 1/3 carat and it makes me smile every time I look at it. The only thing that makes me sad about my ring is that I have to give it away someday-it's an heirloom. Smile

My ring is 1/2 Karat total weight.  I have a Past Present Future ring so I don't know the weight of the center stone.  I don't want anything bigger because it fits my hand perfectly.  Also with the work I do, Sign Language I didn't want anything too big so I don't scratch myself.

I'll start by giving my carat weights. e-ring (solitaire) is .71 I've tried on the same ring in a full carat and it was rediculously big. Mine is just right. My wedding band is .5   Grand total 1.21 carats.

Now my story about people trying to outdo others with the amount spent on rings. I went to dinner with a cousin and her new husband (I wasn't able to make it to the wedding because we had a blizzard that day). I had taken off my rings to wash the dishes the day we planned to have dinner (something I NEVER do) and when we arrived at the restraunt, I realized I had forgotten to put my rings back on. During dinner we got to talking about our rings and prices. They started throwing out numbers first, so I thought, what the hell, it's family, we can share this. I told her that DH had spent $750 on my wedding ring. She proceeded to tell me "He spent double that. He spent about $1400 on my rings" I heard ringS so I asked if that was the cost of the wedding band itself or her whole set. She said "both rings" I could tell she was bragging and that irked me, so I sank to her level (I know, shame on me) and said, "Oh, the $750 was just my w-ring. The set cost $3250" She was flabbergasted then started trying to back track and act all modest and saying how she wouldn't have wanted anything more (and I know this is true of a lot of women, me included, but knowing my cousin and the way she was acting, this was obviously for the sake of looking modest). It was rediculous. She was bragging about how much he had spent when she thought she had the bigger ring, but then tried to act better than me when she realized it was smaller because "it would have been just stupid for her DH to spend that much." Personally I don't care how big your diamond is, how much he (or both of you) spent on your rings or whatever. Diamonds are beautiful and wedding rings are so special in and of themselves. I don't get the competition (and I honestly wasn't trying to compete with her, it just bothered me that anybody would act like that so I decided to shut her up). Anybody else hate this competition?

"She didn't even keep the one he proposed with, just used it as downpymt on the new ring."

That is downright wrong, and makes me feel bad for the person marrying here. I mean does she hold not value to what he picked out with care for her...

Mine is 1/4 of a carat. I am younger, I'm not tying the knot for awhile though. I also will have a band with diamonds on it, so it will look like more than it is. I'm not a flashy person though. It just doesn't matter much to me, I am very cheap by nature too lol. Almost my whole wedding will be DIY. I also have a tendency to lose things, and if I lost a huge diamond, especially my E-ring. I would go crazy, and cry like a baby. My FI would be pretty upset...

I am going to be sweet, Mrs. Sweet that is!

OKAY! when I got the appraisal.. I was freaked out! Then I found out how much he paid for it and I freaked out again! I was satisfied with my first ring he had given to me as our "commit rings" after 1 year of being together. I really thought that was what I was getting married with a 1/2 ct princess cut solitair. OBVEOUSLT he had something BIGGER in mind. LOL. Either way no matter what it is I love him.

And yes I do fell SPOILED! LOL

My fiance' picked a round 1.01 carat diamond, so I could be sure to tell everyone my ring is over a carat Wink  He means it in a very joking way, but I know he's proud when I get compliments on it, haha.

well when we took mine in for cleaning and resizing, the jeweler said it was about a 3/4. turns out after she took out the sizer band that had been put in, it was a perfect fit so not cuting nessary,

of ocurse, thats not what makes it special. the fact is its a 90 year ring from his great-grandmother. and has a matching wedding band. see, he'd inherited two sets. this was the matched set and the set from his grandmother wasnt matched. at first, i actually leaned toward the younder set untill we found out that one had a fake diamond in it and the jewerly cleaned this set up. then you could really see it was much better then it had looked at first. also found out its not white gold like they thought but actually its platium. according to the jeweler, that was actually the common metal for them untill the war started

QueenB- I'm glad she likes them!  I'm so goofy at heart so that makes me smile!!!!

LITM- NOPE!  She didn't keep the ring at all.  The band on the new ring was 10K w/o a center stone.  It made me dizzy to think of that.

I actually saw my ring once.  We were in the store where I had picked out ring just like this with a center stone of 0.41.  I really loved it:         It was an estate jewelry place.  For the heck of it, I tried on the ring that is now my E-ring.  No, I don't know how much it was, and I don't want to know.

Oh, and LITM- I'm super super cheap too although my mom insists I say frugal instead of cheap.  I didn't like my ring at first because I thought it was too big.  I would turn it over if I went in a shady store.  I would pretend it was much smaller than it was.  I told people it was fake.  Then I realized that me acting stupid made FH feel like sh*t.  So, I got over it.  I stopped lying about the size.

But I still never tell my girlfs the size of the eternity band.  I play stupid still on that one.  It's 4-4.5 by itself.  I swear I'm embarrassed to even say that.  I think women get the wrong impression about a female by the size of her ring.  THAT'S WHAT PISSES ME OFF!  Like it's some sort of proof of love.  I say whatever the size, it's yours and no one can take that from u!

Stop me.....I'm rambling.  I've been painting wine glasses (our favors).  I think the fumes got to me.  Oh, and I'm an idiot.  I forgot to include a pic of the real one.  THe out of focus one on the right shows all the little details in the band.  That's my fave thing about the ring.

i like both those rings!  really not even one more than the other.

i don't think brides should feel bad about upgrading their diamonds though.  my DH upgraded mine and the first ring was a trade in on the new one.  he says that it still symbolizes the same thing.  what he got me looks pretty much the same as what he proposed with only a larger stone.  a ring is just a ring.  all material things are just on loan to us from the universe.  we can't take them with us when we go!

i love the style of ring that my DH chose for me.  i love that he used our kitten coconut, who i adore more than life, to propose!! everything about my DH is a blessing and i am proud of what we have together!!

it is nice to see how appreciative the brides here are!  material things as i said are all temporary...it's good to be content!

being in love in a committed relationship is a gift above all. we are so lucky!!

No no I don't mean feeling bad about upgrading.  I mean your FH gives you a ring and you basically blow him off and demand a new one.
