Hi everyone.  Our date is April 25th, like a few others I've seen.  Let's see, what's done?  Well we have our ceremony / reception site booked.  It's on a golf course b/c I wanted outside and he loves golf.  I have my dress ordered.  Asked the wedding party.  All the girls are picking their own dresses in the same color so they're comfortable in what they're wearing.  Only my MOH has ordered b/c she's moving to NY soon.  Save the dates are ordered.  Colors (blue, white, and silver) are picked.  I have the favors picked out and my mother is working on getting stuff for those.  And now we're working on a photographer and an officiant.

I feel like there's a lot of time but I keep hearing it's going to go really fast so I want to get as much done now as I can.  That way we can enjoy being engaged too!

So now I'm having a minor dilemma.  The hubby-to-be asked another friend to be a groomsman.  That's cool.  This guy is a good friend of ours, and it seems right.  But now that means I gotta pick somebody!  LOL.  I'm fighting in my head between two gals.  One I've known longer, but haven't spoken to in a while (it's my fault...I'm a crappy friend) & one who I've known less, but who I'm still in touch with.  I'm close with both of them, they are both very dear to me.  I just don't know which one.  Maybe I'll just make a cardboard cut-out bridesmaid.  That's an idea...  ;)  LOL

Hey everyone! I am yet another April 25th one!! Mine is a bit different, I live in St Lucia so we are having it here on a boat! But we are by far not the traditional type so we are going to just exchange our vows when we first take off, and go straight into the reception, which will more be like a realllllly good party rather than a wedding! :) Our colours are teal and burnt orange....I will be wearing a white swimsuit with a white cover up and I am guessing my guests will be wearing short pants basically, since its extremely casual. My favours are flip flops and beach towels that I will give them when they arrive as a welcome package! Other than that, there will be lots of alcohol and lots of music, and finger foods. I am soooo excited to have my entire family here, that is what I am looking forward to the most I think, they are quite a crazy bunch!

Oh and my invitations are in the shape of a pear of flip-flops!

Good Luck with everyone!!!

Hey 77Chevy Girl,

You do not have to have an equal amount of attendants on both sides.  You should only have people that are close to you.  So I just wanted to let you know that you don't have to include someone that you don't want to.  I had to replace one of my bridesmaids because we fell out over something non-wedding related and we are not friends to this day.  But I was able to replace her with another close friend that I was not going to include because I didn't want a huge wedding party.

Just a little bit of adviceWink

MINOR RANT

WTF!? Since early February, I've been in contact with someone at my alma mater getting information about a wedding. Twice she's asked me about a date, and I've told her twice, "April 11, the Saturday before Easter." The only reply has been, "Unfortunately, the earliest we could book is October/November"

Ok fine, I know I want April, it doesn't HAVE to be that particular Saturday. I email her Friday, "I know you can't book anything, but I want to know does the college have anything going on that week that would be a problem?" I got a reply today, "The school is completely shut down that week. No student, no faculty, no staff, a wedding isn't possible for that date."

WHY DIDN'T SHE TELL ME THAT IN PREVIOUS EMAILS? I'm not upset about changing my little signature on here, I can live without my wedding being on the 11th. I'm upset that after a month of emails, and getting closer and closer to booking things, I find out NOW that what I had in my head has been wrong this whole time.

FINE! BE THAT WAY...

April 11, 2009 is the big day!

My date is April 4, 2009! I have absolutely NOTHING planned yet as we have just finally agreed on the date. I have somethings in mind that I want, but nothing is definate yet. We know where we want the reception and can call them now that we have a date, but we are having an issue with the actual wedding location. We are from a small town with not a lot of options. my FH is Catholic but does not attend church or belong to a church where we live. I am not religious  myself and also do not belong to a church. He has though about the Catholic church in town but we don't know, since we are not memebers, I am not Catholic, and we live together, if they would even marry us there. There really are not any options in town for a non-religious ceremy. We had though about outside, but due to the time of year it may still be on the cool side and you never know about weather in Iowa.

I have an idea as to who I want as my wedding party. Another problem comes in with the fact that my FH has 9 siblings and we feel the need to include them all somewhere!

We are trying to keep the wedding and dinner smaller, about 100 guests, and then invite more to the dance afterwards.

Any suggestions or ideas anyone may have would be greatly appreciated!!

Ok, that's good to know.  I appreciate it!  Thanks!  :)  Definitely something I'm going to consider.

Totally un-realted, I found out today that FH looked at our site, and more importantly saw the pics of my dress.  Obviously, I can't undo what happened, but I am just totally bummed about it!  It's not about the superstition or anything, I just wanted that to be the one big surprise of the wedding, ya know?  Oh well...

hey everybody. sorry i haven't responded to anyones but i took a little break from the whole internet thing and planning. i didn't stop entirely but just needed a break. lol. i played guitar hero III. it was fun and a very good, non-stessful, fun activity for me. it really was.

anyways, i did read everyones that i missed and there are way too many to reply to individually now but they all sound great.

we decided and finalized that our colours are still the lavander purple, a silver, and now a light, pastel yellow. i hope that doesn't change again because i really like it.

soo... we met with the pastor this morning at 10 am. it went good. he just discussed with us our different ceromony options and he saved our date so we deffinitely have him for our wedding and he said it would be fine if we used the church for the wedding and that we could work something out so that we could have the reception there too. i was so worried that it would be like the couples counciling and i am really not a morning person so that could have been bad.

just going there today and talking to him and booking him deffinitely made me super excited for the wedding. i can't wait. i think i want to go shopping now... lol.

i will try to keep up on here =]

happy planning

Kroberts

That is sooo wrong of that woman to lead you on like that! What school is closed on a week in April? Many schools dont close for any reason--for our spring break the staff was still there--the school was still open--there was just an absence of faculty and students.

Thats really absurd! did she say why? thats really unusual for a school to be closed  a week in April. I would be MAD! Can you talk to someone above her? tell them that she didnt tell you this information until right before you where able to book it?

They might compensate you in some other way--since she was miss leading? i dont know--but I would be mad as well!!!!

Im sorry this happened to you :(

Hey EmilyJo1981!

Im catholic--and my FH is baptist. We are getting married in the catholic church at my hometown--which was a complete suprise for me!

I thought the same way as you--they wont marry us if he's not catholic! But it turned out they will! My mother talked to the monsignor on our behalf--and he said that he would marry us even though my FH was baptist--and they also are accomedating to allow my FH to have preacher from his church participate in the ceremony as well!!

SO--maybe you can talk to the church--see what they will allow you to do--they may let you get married there after all!!!

Good luck!! :)

Oh--and by the way--we dont attend that church--my family or myself--and they still are allowing us to get married there. ;)

Sftballplayer,

Glad to hear you got a much needed break!  Everyone needs some thoughtless but fun entertainment every once in a while  :)

That is GREAT that things went so well with the pastor!  I am so happy for you!  :)  What a big difference things like that can make!  :)  It may not always be perfectly smooth sailing, but it sounds like so far so good!  :)

No worries Soon2bMrsBlackwell. It's Carthage College in WI; it's a Lutheran private school, so they can do silly things becuase it's a religiously based school.

Just a minor rant for the day.

I perked up when I got a phone call that the wedding rings were in.

I'm so glad to have this place to come and chat with everyone and get some great ideas! I'm going to need all the help I can get when planning this thing! Especially on my budget!!! I don't even actually know what my total budget will be yet. We have to talk to the parents to find out if they are going to help at all. Wish me luck!

Emily, the magazines & this site have some PHENOMENAL ideas.  I flew back to NY a few weeks ago to get my dress & start planning a bit.  I got so many good money saving ideas from the magazines.  Obviously, things like the size of the wedding are going to have a tremendous impact on your budget.  Ours is going to be very small, so we're doing a brunch wedding.  It's perfect!  I got the idea from one of the magazines.  Everyone in my family LOVED the idea & it's A LOT cheaper than doing a dinner wedding & having an open bar.  Having an April wedding will help as well because April is still considered "off-season" so you should be able to get better deals for your venues.  And look at extras and really question if you're going to need them.  FH & I decided that a videographer is a waste.  We both know we'd never watch the video, so what's the point?  There's one less thing we have to pay for.  There are great ways to save money and not have your wedding seem "cheap," know what I mean?  :)
