October Honeymoon...
Posted: Oct 3, 2007 8:13 PM

My fiance and I are getting married October 4, 2008 and we are trying to plan our honeymoon.  We both REALLY want to go to Disney World (we met while working at Disneyland and have vacationed to WDW together so this would be our ultimate honeymoon spot), or do a Caribbean cruise, but we are extremely worried about Hurricane Season.  The date is one year from tommorrow, and we have seen a few tropical storms and hurricanes in that area in the past month or so.  Is is too risky? Anyone honeymoon in Florida/Caribbean in October?

Also, I was wondering if any other October brides can share where they went for their honeymoon and how the weather was.  We are getting married in the Seattle area, and it will probably be raining.  We want to vacation somewhere a bit warmer, but still have fun at the same time.  Any suggestions? Thanks!

Oops, see my post on your other "budget & basics" -- consider Disneyland in Anaheim!

LOL.  I know, I couldn't figure out how to delete a double posted thread!

Anyways, we don't necissarily want to do Disneyland because we live in Orange County right now, 10 minutes away from the Park.  We used to go all of the time when we worked there, and now it isn't as special for us.  But we vacationed last year to WDW and had a blast.  It was Disney theme park (we are Disney nuts!), but different than our usual Disneyland trips.  Living in CA, I know the weather here is good this time or year, but we want to go somewhere different, not just the place down the street. We are moving to Seattle this November, so I guess it is always a possibility, because we will no long be in this area. I'm just soo worried about hurricane season.  I wouldn't want it to ruin our honeymoon.

Thanks for the suggestion....

Congrats,

Have you considered a Disney Cruise?  Since you and your FH loves Disney so much you should try the other side of Disney on a fantastic Caribbean Voyage.

I have booked countless honeymooners who just simply adore the aspects of the Disney ship and how it adds-value to their honeymoon.

I checked and the 7-nights voyage  on the Disney Magic sails on 10/4/08 so that is not good as you will miss your big day.  The 4-nights sails on 10/5/08 so depending on where you are flying from you would be able to make it.  If you choose the 4-night cruise you have the choice of extending your stary at a Disney Resort or another off-site location for an additional charge.  Most of my clients love this, as they will do the 4-night cruise and then add on a hotel with transfers, passes to the packs, meal plan etc.

If you have any questions feel free to PM, call or email me.

October 4, too? How exciting!! Yay, for the 4th!! Smile

Disney cruise? Haven't thought of that? Are there things for adults to do too.  I can only picture lots of little kids running around with Mickey and Friends, kind of in the way of our romantic getaway... I like the idea, though, of adding a few resort days at the end of a 4 day cruise.  Two in one! Thanks for the info!

We're honeymooning this October, starting on the 15th and coming back on the 23rd.  We're going to the Dominican Republic, so I'll let you know how the weather is...I'm a little worried too.

I have heard that if you stay around Bermuda you should be ok....maybe you could do a Disney cruise in that area.

We just went on our honeymoon last week to Riviera Maya Mexico. We also were worried about hurricanes but we chanced it and the weather was perfect. I think you should book the honeymoon you want. Its also a good idea to get trip insurance that covers, among other things, either rescheduling or changing your destination in the event of a hurricane.

Since that is hurricaine season, you will most likely have a hurricaine or a tropical storm.  We just got back from Florida at the end of September and it rained at least some EVERY DAY.  But when it was not raining, it was sunny and georgeous!  It's just a risk and one you need to decide if it's worth the risk or not.

I agree that if you do go to Florida to make sure you get trip insurance.

Barbados is incredible and warm and classy!  Check out the Crane.. i have exclusive deals with them.. but i have to say that there has not been a direct hit with a hurricane in Barbados in over 65 years.. you are safe ..

I was just there this past weekend.  I will have photos posted on my site soon..

Cool Have a great day! and Congrats to you

FH and I went on a Caribbean cruise earlier this year and loved the islands, but our late September wedding is giving us the same Hurricane problems.  We are BOTH Meteorologists and we WON'T even take those chances.  We've decided to go to Maine instead.

Hope that helps.

We are getting married in October too. October 10, 2009 and we are running into the same problem with where to go. We would love to goto St. Lucia but do not want to chance hurricane season and we really don't want to do a cruise so that rules that out. We will probably end up doing something in Europe because it's a safe bet. I love Hawaii but FH isn't crazy about it. Europe is pretty expensive but since we have 2 years til the wedding I figure that gives me plenty of time to shop around for some really good deals. Keep me posted on what you decide since you are in the same boat as us.

I too am getting married on October 4, 2008! We were looking at Hawaii but the cost is so crazy! We are planning on spending the first two nights in the Napa Valley for some R&R and then we are not really sure. We were thinking about Cabo in Mexico. I know the whole deal with hurricane season because I am going through that as well but Cabo is on the Pacific side and apparently you don't really run into that problem there. But I am still researching myself. So if anyone knows about Cabo that would be great help!

We honeymooned in Napa Valley back in the beginning of October 2007.  Its was wonderful.  The weather was mild and it was right in the middle of harvest.  There was alot to do and the food was amazing.  I highly recommend it.
