Infinity Symbol
Posted: Oct 1, 2007 9:41 PM

I am stumped! I wanted to go with an "infinity" theme since I am getting married on 08-08-08. However, I cannot find anything with the infinity symbol! I really wanted to have my invitations have the symbol on them, and then incorporate it into my isle runner (which my aunt is making for us for free and can add the symbol any way she wants), the bouquets, the cake (which too can be designed with the symbol) and on the reception name cards and table numbers...but I can't find any invites with the symbol. Does anyone know where I could get invites with the infinity symbol on them? I can't imagine I am the ONLY person that wants the symbol! Or am I?? Help needed!

That's the first time I've ever heard anybody use that symbol! That's a cool idea.

Unfortunately the only advice I can give is to search google, msn, and yahoo images. I guess looking in math books couldn't hurt either. shrug

Good luck on finding it!

Well, I'm a HS math teacher, so I have plenty of infinity symbols around...but I was looking for an invitation company that had invites with the symbols on them...I tried google. No luck :( Maybe by the time I have to order (around Jan.) someone will get creative. I could only hope!

Hmm, since you're a high school teacher . . . are there any art teachers at your school who could help you design the symbol in a way that can be incorporated into your invitation, aisle runner, and other items?  If you're making DIY invitations, there might be a spot on the invitation where the customer can drop in an image of their choosing.  Or if you're having them printed, the printer should, similarly, be able to choose a template that has a spot where you can drop in an image.

Using the infinity symbol is a great idea, especially considering your wedding date.  The reason I thought of suggesting an art teacher is that if it were me, I'd go to the graphics shop where I had my invitations printed, as I know they have artists who do custom work.  These shops can be a bit pricey so I thought you might do better with a fellow teacher -- naturally you could still pay them but they might not charge as much.

When choosing my engagement & wedding rings I kind of debated about an infinity ring.  I love the concept of it!

here's one, but it has hebrew calligraphy on the symbol

possibly entwined rings

maybe you could get a stamp and use it on the envelope or print a belly band with the symbol to go around the invitation

btw... you may like this as a cake topper

Why not make your own and then you can place on anything you want.  They have the DIY stationary so you could do it all like that.  Just a thought

MrsHowardtobe-
That infinity cake topper/statue is beautiful!

080808bride-
I also have never heard of someone using the infinity symbol but it is a GREAT idea! If you're already looking at DIY invitations, you'll be able to get the exact design you want. Then you could have thank you cards with the same design.

Good luck!

I'm excited to hear someone else getting married on 8-8-08 and using the infinity symbol! I had the same problem on finding the infinity symbol to use in our decor... I'm making my own aisle runner and my own invitations since there wasnt much out there..

How awesome! You are the first 08-08-08 with the infinity idea that I've come across. I am excited to have someone to bounce ideas off of! We decided to order "plain" invites online and then add ribbon tied around the top with the stamped infinity symbol. I think that I will do a tier of my cake with the symbols placed all over. The isle runner will have it on there, the place cards we will use the same stamp on as we did the invites. I don't know how else to incorporate it. Keep ideas coming!

Deffinately see if you can get an art teacher to design a symbol for you. Then you could have a rubber stamp made. This would make your invites, thank you notes, escort cards, etc. really cute and easy. Wax stamps would be a little more complicated but would add a really elegant touch.

You know what else would be neat? If you used infinity candles in your centerpieces. you could use other candles around them and have flower petals sprinkled around the base or even whole buds. It would be so different and cool.

This is a menorah, but you could use it anywhere. Perhaps on your guest book table or escort table:

It's a neat idea. good luck!

The other place we are using the infinity symbol is a "gobo" light projection on either the wall or the dance floor. Most of the DJ's offer this decor or you can produce it your self with any kind of light projector or old film projector some one may have kicking around in the attic....(Tip, check out holiday image projectors and then creat your own  slide for it using the infinity symbol. The slide is cheap to put to gether by going to your local photo shop.) But the effect looks pretty nice... its a an unexpected touch to your reception.

I mentioned the gobo idea to FH, he's in the media business, and he claims he didn't know what it was...and said it just meant a light. I googled it and all but he still insists that no one has those. I put him in charge of the DJ so hopefully he'll remember my request, even though he is wanting to ignore it, when he books someone.

Do you think people know what that symbol means? I am a math teacher so of course I know, but I hope people don't look at it and think, why did they put an 8 sideways?

I thought about that too, that maybe perhaps the guests wouldnt understand the "sideways eight"... I'm gonna really try to almost draw it out for them and explain the symbolic usage....In our ceremony were explaining the infinity symbol and its simularities of 8-8-8...   It might be kind of trickie. Check out the poem by Sadie A. Jones "My love for you"....  i'm also trying to tie that in somehow.

Hi,

I am getting married 08-08-08 also and have been searching to incorporate the infinity symbol in my wedding as well.  I am making my own invitations because I can't find anything with this symbol.  Not too many people I've spoken to that are getting married on 08-08-08 are incorporating this theme.  Maybe we can exchange ideas!
