Photo Booth
Posted: Jun 30, 2007 6:33 PM

Hi everyone!  This is my first posting.  I am toying with the idea of a photo booth either in addition to a favor or in lieu of a favor.  I wanted to know what you thought of the idea or what your experiences were like if you attended a wedding that incorporated one.  I am having a Saturday evening, black tie wedding in New York City and am a little concerned that a photo booth may be a little unclassy, cheesy, or not fitting for such a formal affair.  I appreciate any and all thoughts on this.  Thanks!

It doesn't sound unclassy or cheesy.  People always have fun going into a photo booth.  Just imagine how many of your guests, will take a picture in a photo booth for the first time in years.  They'll have a ball with it, even its a formal affair.  By the way, could you tell me about how much this costs.  If its affordable, I may even want to add that to my reception (I live in Northern Jersey/NYC area).

We went to a wedding recently with a photo booth.  It was so much fun!  FH and I are not much on getting our pics taken, but we did it!  How the couple had it set up was you took six photos. We kept 3 and gave 3 to the bride and groom. Then the ones for the couple were pasted into a scrap book and we wrote them a message.  It was a lot of fun. Everyone was making goofy faces and poses.  Even some mushy ones, like FH and I. We took three "nice" photos and three funny ones.  We gave the funny ones to our friends and I kept the mushy ones.  LOL

The wedding we attended was a Saturday evening, up in Cold Spring, NY at a very pretty Inn.  I don't think it would be cheesy at all. Think of all the fun memories you'd have!  If I could afford it, I would consider it myself.

Sounds like a good idea? I'd like to know about how much they run also. Where would you rent a photo booth from?

All the ones I have seen are around 1300 dollars.  I really want one, but that is not in my budget.  If you go to americasphotoboothassociation.com you can put in your state to see what companies deliver in your area.

I recent have seen in a magazine (Coloraod Brides or The knot Colorado) DIY photo area.

You need: a large piece of material for background, a digital camera, a printer, and an attendent.

The DIY may not be the best idea for formal bit it definetly can be pretty classy.  There are places that will do professionally what I just explained for DIY.  We had one of those at company party I attended an it wa great!

We're doing a DIY "photobooth" for our reception, similar to what you describe. Details are here.

2dbride, maybe I missed it but who is manning your photo booth since it's DIY?

It sounds like a great idea, and I had thought about stealing it from you, but I'm already having trouble finding someone to man the beer kegs and play bartender since we're BYOB'ing our reception.

Friends who have volunteered to help will be operating the "photobooth." Essentially, we will have each of them doing it for half an hour, to minimize the burden on any one person.
