Yes the shakes actually do fill me up, and on top of the snacks you are not hungry. It is important to have small snacks to keep your metab. going.
You can get creative with it also - if you use the vanilla shake mix with regular low fat hood carb countdown milk - you can add frozen strawberries or fresh - i like frozen cuz it comes out like a thick milkshake. Any type of berrie and they come frozen in the bag right from krogers or any grocery store.
you have to be very careful with fruit !! the natural sugar turns to carbs, that turn to fat.
basically you can have berries - but apples, oranges etc.. are too high in natural sugar and are a no no . I will from time do a banana but only have half.
You can add flavor to your shake by using the atkins flavored syrup - found in the health food at the grocery store,
One thing i like is the chocolate shake, in the blender with half a banana and couple tablespoons of peanut butter .
or you can do a cinnamon roll - vanilla shake mix, sprinkle of butter buds, cinnamon. It does taste like a cinnamon roll .
If anyone wants the recipe ideas i can email them .
as far as snacks - rule of thumb - nothing white - which means basically nothing with white flour. No chips, bread, little debbies, crakers, popcorn, especially anything with potatoes.
if you like tuna i get the tuna packed in the foil packets, I will eat it right out of the packet or you can add some mayo, tomatoe etc.. to what you like. Tuna is loaded with protein.
celery and peanut butter is a good one - it may be a little high in fat but look at the carbs verses the protein - good stuff . Very low in carbs.
you can have 1/4 cup of mixed nuts
I get chicken or turkey and munch on that
any kind of fish that isnt breaded - the peel and eat shrimp is good.
i make my own peanut butter protein bars which are good. Or the pure protein bars in the store are the best. They have a smores one that is good !! and it curbs the craving for chocolate.
celery and cream cheese is good, or celery and a cheese ball.
I make a good shrimp dip that i use with celery - its just a block of cream cheese, one packet of the dry ranch dressing mix, and one can of the small salad shrimp, and a cap full of milk. You mix everything together and then add the shrimp - good !!
you can snack on cheese - any kind, the low carb smoothie on the go - I get the ones in the red bottles - they are lower in carbs - carb countdown i think they are called. The cream of mushroom soup at hand is low in carbs.
but just because it is low carb doesnt mean you can have all you want - your goal is still to stay to around 30 carbs a day and make sure you get your 100 grams of protein in a day.
I have learned all this from what i have gone through and am still going through. i still would like to drop 2 more sizes and get down to a size 10 .
watch your veggies also - some are high in carbs. like beans, peas, and especially corn, carrots.
you would be good with broccoli, green beans, cauliflower etc..
If anyone wants me to email the papers I have at home i can - it makes it much easier to understand and gives you an easy list of things to have and not have. and what to do. It's pretty easy - its only 2 pages of instructions.
I weigh 170lbs and I am wanting to get to 130-140 before my wedding in October 2006. I have quite a bit of time but that is why I need something sooner to motivate me. So, what I am doing is training to run a 5K in April, June and August for the Susan G. Komen Run for a Cure for Breast Cancer. I will be helping myself along with hundreds of women fighting breast cancer. That way I am helping but also motivating myself to workout. My big problem is eating healthy. Any ideas?
I would like to get some of those recipes from you. Are the ingredients cheap for these recipes? I am sort of on a tight budget with a child and we try to watch how much we spend when we go to the store. I would like to get some recipes from you though. My email address is email@example.com
Abso-friggin-lutely. However, I have started taking a step class twice a week (I'm going to go three times a week starting next week). I've done six classes so far and I have to say- I'm less jiggly. I need to lose about... 60 pounds? More would be better, but I have 7 months til my wedding- I think 60 would be a good amount to lose in that time. I gain muscle easily, so after only six classes my legs are SO much stronger and I actually have ab muscles! Sadly, they are hidden by stubborn layer of blubber (or, as we say in Minnesota- Insulation.) I'm also watching wat I eat, but excercise is really what whips my tush into shape!
Hey Kerrmonster, That's a fantasic weight lose. I am also doing weight watchers but my progress is rather slow. I've only lost 10Lbs in about 20 weeks. I think I've gained and then lost the same 10LBs, but I've lost inches. But I'm not giving up. I weight now 183 and by my wedding (6/17/07 ) I want to be 1351bs. What are your secrets to your weight lose ?
I'm aiming to lose 20 lbs. I'm about 165 right now and I need to drop, ideally, 40 lbs, but 20 will do for the time frame I have, and for the way I want to look. It's all in the mindset, really, and up until now I just haven't gotten into it. Now that the wedding is coming up and my dress will be in soon (and the time will come when they tell me not to gain or lose weight or else the dress won't fit) it's hitting me that it's crunch time.
I feel like if my dress were to come in today and I went to try it on, I would just start crying b/c I look so disgusting. Right there, in front of my Mom and everyone, I would burst into tears over my back fat. I know it. So, I've loaded up my new mp3 player with great songs, I've skipped my normal bagel with cream cheese and large coffee from dunkin donuts, and I'm going to hit the gym tonight and start burning it all off.
I've got to or else I won't let myself get married.
Emmadog-we have the same wedding date and the VERY same weight goal. I too am 165 and I need to be 135 or 140 max for my wedding day. I joined Bally's but I have not gone in 3 weeks because I hurt my back . I feel as if I have gained back all I lost and then some!!! Not to mention when the "end" of the month comes around I gain 5+lbs. in water weight. I'm really not happy with my delay in progress.
However I have been jumping rope and doing my 45 min. walk and the ball.
I'm open for suggestions of any sort. But if anyone is interested in "buddying" up to keep the fire lit under one another please let me know. I love my FH......but they don't see what we see sometime and it's fustrating!
All the best to you all and good luck & good lose!!
Good luck to everyone trying to lose weight! I just tried on my wedding dress today (because I just got the bra and crinolines for it) and I can't zip it- it doesn't fit!!! So now I'm on a mission to lose ALOT of weight and to hvae the seamstress take that baby in instead of letting my dress out. My goal is 20 lbs. I'm not drinking alchol, 1 sweet a day, no sodas, lots of water, and at least one salad a day- no snacks! Keep your fingers crossed for me- I really really really want my dress to fit!!
what i have noticed is that if you are hungry(oftent times when you shouldnt be like me,in between meaals/late at night & after 7pm), drink a large cup of ice water, then brush your teeth. the thought of tasting food with fresh breath helps. I also save the time to do my crest white strips until after dinner, so it takes about 1 hour to do both treatments, so by then i am unfocused on food.... start writing down what you eat, this way writing down a bag of chips makes you feel guilty and you wont want to do that.....
I am 5'1" and I weigh 155 and before I had my son 4 years ago I was small and I can't get back down to the size I used to be but, I want to lose at least 25 pounds before my wedding which will be in fall of 07. I have tried a lot of different diets and exercises that seem to be working but if I don't do it for a day forget it, I can't get back into the routine.I could use a little encouragement too.
