Has anyone heard anything about the Merrimaker's Water's Edge site in Sea Bright, NJ?  I too am planning a NJ wedding from CA (apparently there's a lot of us!!)  I am going back to look at sites next month.  We want to get married on the beach and the webpage for Water's Edge looks great, but I haven't been able to find that much else about it online.  The few reviews I did find were mixed, but also outdated.

Any other suggestions of good Central (Monmouth/Ocean County) NJ Beach Venues would be awesome!

I haven't been at that Merrimakers location, but I was at the one in LBI for a bridal show and that one is really really great!  Not sure if you want to go that south to LBI or not but it's a really beautiful facility and the food was good too.

Thanks for compiling this list. My fiancé (Dave) and I are trying to find an elegant yet inexpensive venue. We have an added handicap because I'm allergic to the idea of having my wedding in a depressingly dark and disgustingly carpeted banquet hall that holds multiple weddings on what is supposed to be "my" day. We have a very limited budget so most venues so far that have piqued our interest have been galaxies outside of our budget. For example, Dave had a conversation yesterday with a rep from the Grand Hyatt in Jersey City that still has us laughing… more to keep us from crying. Imagine our surprise when we he was told that the four-hour reception for 150 people would cost from $35-$40K… almost double our whole wedding budget. Oh… and there’s an extra $2-$3 thousand dollars to have the ceremony onsite. I hope your wedding was beautiful. Which venue did you end up choosing?

Is anyone considering having their wedding at or has had their wedding at The Manor in West Orange?  I really like the place, but am a little apprehensive to book as they do not have any food tasting (other than the restaurant).  Please help!!!

I have also driven around central and norther NJ.  If anyone is looking for quotes for the following halls, please let me know:  The Manor, Ravello, The Birchwood Manor, Nanina's in the Park, The Imperia, Merri-Makers (PNC Arts Center).

Wow, that was a great list.  I just started planning for my October 2008 wedding.  The church ceremony will be in Hoboken so the reception place must be in the immediate area.  I have already checked out Liberty House and the Hyatt Regency, both in Jersey City.  Does anyone have an opinion on either or both places?  I am leaning towards the Liberty House since I thought the rooms for the cocktail hour and reception seemed different from a plain vanilla hotel ballroom.  However, I have no idea how good or bad the food and service are.  Are there other neaby receiption places that anyone would suggest?  I plan on between 200 to 250 (max) guests and I am budgeting for around $200 per guest (for the place, food & beverage).  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My best friend is getting married there next October. So far things have progressed well, though the guy that originally booked them there has been fired and replaced with two women, which makes my BF very nervous, but she has a meeting with the new women next week and we're hoping that they are competent. I saw a wedding ceremony performed there while they were booking and it went very well in the gazebo out front, and the food during the tasting was good. So personally I would say it is a good location, especially for the price.

Hi Natt93, yes I would be very interested in your quotes for those sites (The Manor, Ravello, The Birchwood Manor, Nanina's in the Park, The Imperia, Merri-Makers (PNC Arts Center).  Please send the info to myfreebook@yahoo.com.  I just got engaged and am trying to plan my wedding for later thisa year.  Thanks!

I thought that it would be better to post here, just in case anyone else is looking at any of these halls.  These are the quotes that I got for August 2008:

PNC Center (Marrimakers) - $90 pp ($8,500 min) + gratuity + 5% for Maite D + $550 ceremony fee + tax

The Imperia - $115 pp (gratuity included) + $5 pp for ceremony + tax

The Manor - $86-89 pp + 20% gratuity + $12 pp for ceremony + tax (This is what we want to go with, you can negotiate, but not by much)

Ravello Banquet - $100 (negotiable) + 18% gratuity + tax (no ceremony fee)

The Birchwood Manor - $124.95 pp + 20% gratuity + 10% Maitre D + $10 pp for ceremony + tax

Naninas in the Park - $110 pp (not negotiable, but includes venetian table) + $600 ceremony fee + 18% gratuity + 5% Maitre D + tax

Hope this helps.

Quick question regarding the Skylands Castle price...does the $135 include an open bar? or is that just for food?

Hey all...I just wanted to give some info about a place that my fiance and I just booked for May of 09 that is a hidden gem and is BEAUTIFUL...it is the Newark Club...it is on the top floor of the Seton Hall Law Building in Newark right near NJPAC and Penn Station and it is not in a bad area (they rent a cop for you too to make you feel secure) ....it is reasonable and we are paying $120 a head for a Sun in May (we bartered a bit, but they are willing to work with you)...it is elegant and the food is amazing and I have heard from 20+ people that the weddings they do there are great....we only looked at a few places but another word of advice...do NOT go look at Stirling Ridge in Warren, it is overpriced and the people there are not easy to work with so save yourself a trip! It's a beautiful place but my fiance and I did not feel welcome. Hope this helps!!
