Money Instead of Gifts

All,

As with so many of the previous postings my future wife and I are currently living together and would much rather have money then gifts but don't want to look tacky or cause offence.

I've found a website that looks like a real wedding list site but instead of buying presents the guests are asked to contribute to a larger present of your choice i.e. Honeymoon, new house, car etc. It then allows guests to chose an item relating to the gift to the value they want to give i.e. 70 dollars for a 'steering wheel'

This seems like a good way of avoiding the tackyness but there is an 8% charge for this service. I supposse paying 80 dollars to receive 1000 isn't a lot but I was wondering whether using this site is firstly acceptable and secondly value for money.
