When to order bridesmaid dresses?

When to order bridesmaid dresses?

We're getting married on April 24, 2010, but I need some help deciding
when to have my bridesmaids order their dresses. I've been giving the
'girls' timeline (ex: "Please make your dress selection by October
10th...") which has been helpful to them since they all live in
different cities/states. While there are certain criteria regarding the
bridemaids dresses, I have let them pick out their own dresses to
ensure satisfaction since I have asked them to pay for their own
dresses.

My question, though, is when to have them order their dresses by. The
dress selection is "due" October 10th and ideally the dress ordering
would be in December, the problem obviously being the holidays. Should
I just give them a December order date (giving a little leeway around
these dates mind you) or would it be fine to wait until the end of
January when people have had a chance to get paid again and not feel
the need to spend their money on gifts? Is an end of January ordering
date risking it considering ordering, arrival, fitting(s), possible
alterations, etc.?

My wedding is May 2 and the place that my girls are ordering there dress from said that we did not need to worry about it until early January.

I think you are safe with waiting until then espicailly since your wedding is at the end April.

I think it all depends on your bridal shop. I am getting married April 17 2010 and when I talked to the bridal shop they said we should order in September. I guess to insure they arrive in time and have time for alterations to be done. When your girls are shopping for dresses ask them to ask their local shop what they recommend. Hope this helps :)

One thing to keep in mind: the dresses that your maids pick out might be discontinued and not available after the new line comes out. I know the date probably depends on the manufacturer, but I think, on another board, another poster mentioned this being around the first of the year. I would talk to your salon and see when the best time is to order the specific dresses.

You'll have to talk to the location of where you are ordering the dresses from. My wedding is in May and I had to order my dresses in July because I was told they were discontinuing the color in August. So go talk to the place, they'll have the best idea.
