I ruined the surprise!
Posted: Jun 3, 2012 2:29 AM

Hello all! I'm new here, and having a bit of a "freak out" moment.

A little background:

My boyfriend and I have been together for 5 and a half years, and have lived together for 5 years. We're leaving for Cancun next Saturday. This is our first "real" vacation together.

A few months ago, we started talking about marriage, and he asked what kind of rings I like. I have to wear it, after all.

So, yesterday, when checking the mail, I found a credit card statement from an account I have no knowledge of. Not thinking anything of it (and recently having some attempted fraud issues), I opened it to make sure it was nothing to worry about.

sigh I think you can see where this is going.

It had one purchase on it, from a jewelry store. Specifically, the store that I showed him when discussing engagement rings.

I have ruined my own surprise.

I haven't told him about this yet. Frankly, I don't know if I should. I can't call my friends for advice because I don't want to ruin the "surprise" when, you know, he actually asks me. What do I do? Do I pretend I never saw it and wait for Cancun to come along? Do I tell him AFTER he proposes that I found it? So I tell him now? HELP!

I think it depends on your boyfriend's personality. How upset will he be if he finds out? At the same time, if you don't tell him now you probably will never be able to tell him, so you'll have to withhold it for the rest of your life. Right now, although it seems like it means the world, in the bigger scheme of things it may not be quite as big of a deal as it may if you wait and tell him later, after he proposes. It's a judgment call and a painful one, but I have a feeling that it may hurt less if you tell him now.

This is a difficult one. I think that you should just go along with it. You haven't completely ruined the surprise. You still don't know when where or how he'll propose. You obviously knew before you read the statement that he was leaning towards asking you ,so, If you think about it the only thing you've discovered is that it will be sooner rather than later. I would just go along with it for now and mention it casually after all the excitement has died down.

Don't let this statement ruin this special time.

This is a tough one. Just like EncoreDT said, it really depends on his personality. Do you think that he would be crushed if he found out that you knew? On one hand you don't want to lie or deceive him but you also don't want to ruin the plan he spent a lot of time thinking up...

Of courseeeeeee, you have to wait until he says something. If not you will spoil all his surprise and disappoint him.

It wasn't a mail but before he asked me to merry I saw a ring box in his car. was waiting for a week - he told nothing... the next week - he told nothing... and at last my patience was over and I asked him about this ring-box..... AND.... I spoiled everything... He was planning a wonderful evening to ask for and... I gave him no other way: he asked me to marry by phone :D

So, my friendly advice - do NOT spoil his surprise :)))

On the whole brides spend a long time looking for their Cheap Wedding Dresses because they want it to be perfect. They will search through as many dresses as they can possibly get their hands on in their quest to find the "one".For many brides they don't consider making the task a lot more easier by just looking at the Cheap Bridesmaid Dresses designers instead of hundreds of wedding dresses.Let the important day in your heart forever!
