Picnic table reception
Posted: Nov 14, 2010 8:20 PM

We are getting married at the 2011 Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival August 27, 2011. We are excited to hold both our wedding and our reception there. We don't have to worry about decorating the quaint chapel, but we do need to decorate for the reception.

The reception will be held outside in their reception area. The area will be covered by a pavillion. The tables will be picnic tables. They decorate the head table for us using multicolored materials. That leaves me needing to decorate about 9 tables. 7 for our guests to be seated at and 1 for gifts and 1 for the guest book, etc.

What is the normal size for a picnic table? Does anyone have any decor ideas? We are needing ideas for those on a "small budget"!

Thanks,

Andria

Right away I thought "red checkered table cloths with yellow flowers in mason jars." That would be pretty darn inexpensive while still being colorful and nice. Can't get much cheaper than that!

Some extra information to help:

I am not sure on the colors or materials for the head table. It is multicolored. I can changed that too. I don't have to use their decor for the head table.

The colors I am using in my wedding are Ivory, light blue, gold accents, black and brown.

I guess I should state that my wedding is during the day. I was thinking that candles wouldn't exactly work. The ceremony is at noon and the reception follows the ceremony. I wasn't sure about purchasing linens. It is a casual ceremony.

Thanks for the response!!

I added some extra information after reading your answer. I do like your idea; however, it wouldn't work for our wedding because of the colors.

It would be great for an entertaining idea or another wedding. I love yellow.

Well, there are stores that you can purchase vinyl or plastic table clothes to cover the tables in a variety of colors. I would start there. Vinyl would last a little longer and be less likely to tear.

Here's plastic lined paper - http://www.codwholesale.com/Rectangular-54x108_c_240.html

Here's just plastic - http://www.codwholesale.com/Rectangular-54x108_c_71.html

So you have plenty of color options.

I would consider having a runner of a different color down the middle of the table maybe. The faire may not permit open flames, so candles might not be a good idea anyways - I would go for flowers. You could do faux flowers or real ones.

I go to renaissance faires so I'm trying to think of something that ties in the faire.... I'll get back to you. :-)

I found terrific looking and cheap oilcloths for picnic tables in an article in the last April issue of BRIDES. The website is oilcloth.com.

I did take a look at www.oilcloth.com . They don't sell online except for wholesale. I would have to locate their products in a store.

Thanks!

I found two ideas that you might like for centerpieces.

You could do a garland down the center of the table.

Or you could do a few small vases with a single flower in each one. That shouldn't be too expensive.

I found this picture about a week ago. I'm making coffee filter pom-poms to decorate our outdoor wedding. It gave me another idea though. You could make/buy each guest a crown or hat and then line them up along the table and that could be your centerpieces and your favors in one.

You could also do potted plants or potted herbs for your centerpieces.

We'll be using picnic tables too for our reception. I don't know how big exactly the tables are though. I'm planning on using paper tablecloths.

Thanks for the ideas. I have thought about clustering little vases filled with small flowers.

I was thinking of paper tableclothes until someone posted a site to purchase inexpensive plastic ones and even linens.

You could even look into thrift stores for sheets. You could pick those up pretty cheap there and find yellow or even a variety of colors if you want for more causual look.
