I'm planning a rather large rehearsal dinner for at least 50 people. Any interesting ideas for food?

Formal or informal? That's the important point here. If it's more informal, you could have a variety of crostini for starters, and a varied BBQ of some sort.

If it's more formal, I'd start looking for asparagus and pan cook them in butter, for example. It's delicious, and looks wonderful when garnished with fine hams (or a vegetarian choice).

Informal.

I've thought of barbecue but I want something else because our wedding party has hinted at bachelor/bachelorette barbecue.

Great idea though

You could still do a BBQ, I really don't think anyone would say "OMG we did this for there bach. parties!" If so, then get they can stop at Wendys! LOL. You could also just something catered, sometimes when FH and I have people over we'll just get something real simple like Popeyes. You could do sub sandwiches too.
