Is this rude? About gifts...

Hey, my fiance and I (and our baby) live with my parents, and are hoping to be able to have enough money to move into a house of our own after our wedding. Would it be rude to have our mothers spread the word that we'd rather have gift cards or money as a wedding gift, as opposed to picture frames and little figurines?

I wouldn't mind the picture frames, but I'd rather have a house to put them in first... Obviously I wouldn't be able to tell people myself not to get me something, but would it be rude of our parents to hint around to their relatives that we really need just money, or the house items that we've registered for?
