Brother-Sister Dance
Posted: Feb 26, 2009 12:55 PM

My older brother and I have a great relationship. Even though he's 28 and I'm 18, we have always been close. He has been there for me in a lot of rough stuff.

Now that I'm getting married, I want to do something special by having a brother-sister dance at my weddingfor Matthew and I. The only problem is that I'm stuck as to what song I should use. . . .any ideas?

Soon to be his bride,

Rachel

How do I live without you? I want to know. How do I breathe without you if you ever go? How do I ever, ever survive? How do I, oh how do I, oh how do I live?

Waiting to be his beloved bride till death do us part ~~ October 3, 2009

Not sure how you feel about country music. But Rascal Flatts has a song called "My Wish" which could work out. The lyrics are really about wishing the best for someone's life. I know that's what you would wish for your brother, and I'm sure that's how he'd feel for you as well!

One of my favorites for this kind of situation is by Nickel Creek and its called When You Come Back Down. It has sort of an Irish-country-folk feel to it and the lyrics are perfect. (below)

You got to leave me now, you got to go alone
You got to chase a dream, one that's all your own
Before it slips away
When you're flyin' high, take my heart along
I'll be the harmony to every lonely song
That you learn to play

When you're soarin' through the air
I'll be your solid ground
Take every chance you dare
I'll still be there
When you come back down
When you come back down

I'll keep lookin' up awaitin' your return
My greatest fear will be that you will crash and burn
And I won't feel your fire
I'll be the other hand that always holds the line
Connectin' in between your sweet heart and mine
I'm strung out on that wire

And I'll be on the other end
To hear you when you call
Angel, you were born to fly
And if you get too high
I'll catch you when you fall
I'll catch you when you fall

Your memory's the sunshine every new day brings
I know the sky is calling
Angel, let me help you with your wings

When you're soarin' through the air
I'll be your solid ground
Take every chance you dare
I'll still be there
When you come back down

Take every chance you dare
I'll still be there
When you come back down
When you come back down

Other good ones that work for brother/sister would be:

Hero by Mariah Carey, Youve Got a Friend by James Taylor, True Colors by Cyndi Lauper, You Are the Sunshine of my Life by Stevie Wonder, You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban, Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion, etc.Or ask your brother and talk about any songs that are special to you both.

I am going to have my two brothers walk me down the aisle and I want to have a dance with each of them, and I have been trying to find songs. It's nice that others are thinking of these things too!

Hey Adoring Bride!

I hear you on the love of our big brothers - Mine is fifteen years old than me, and he still calls me his baby sister when he introduces me to friends/coworkers. *:P I love him to death.

As far as a Brother-Sister dance, I think that is a SPECTACULAR idea. I just might have to steal it, when my day comes... Tee hee.... Anyway, I digress. My taste in music is a bit different than most, but I'll give you a few suggestions from my iTunes.

Georgia by Boz Scaggs
High by Brooklyn Bounce
And, of course White Wedding by Billy Idol ("Hey little sister, who's your Superman?")

Sorry, it's really hard to give music suggestions to people when you don't know them intimately. After all, I have no idea what music you listen to.

My biggest bit of advice - use something instrumental, no lyrics. Maybe a really fun swing song, if you want something more upbeat, or a nice, jazzy waltz, if you want something slower. All totally up to you! Best of luck!

"Oh, no, I'm just the friend of the Bride!"  *;)
