Need Hair pins or hair comb...no tiara though!
Posted: Oct 12, 2007 2:59 PM

I am trying to find fancy hair pins to put in my hair. I don't want a tiara, my dress is already fancy enough without it. I do need a barette or something! Any suggestions? I need something without pearls, but sparkly. My hair will be up in curls to give you an idea. Any suggestions are welcome!

Thank you

I'm going with this option too. A tiara is really just doesn't fit my personality. You should be able to find jeweled hair clips pretty muth anywhere. All the "jewelry" stores like Claire's etc sell cz hair clips. Any place that sells prom like jewelry should.

If you don't find what you're looking for you could always hotglue or superglue any embellishment to a plain old clip. For other events I've broken the pin off of a broach & turned it into a hair clip.

I went to http://www.naugi.com/ and got hair combs, they have some with tiny pearls or just a lot of sparkle.  I just tucked them in my hair, it was a nice touch but not too much to distract from the dress.  It's a great shop.

There are quite a few websites selling lovely "bridal hair ornaments" of many designs & sizes.  If you just Google that phrase, you'll be able to shop around.  I had found one or two online that I was going to order, but then I found one in a local bridal shop that was perfect (though expensive) so I went ahead and bought it instead.  I liked being able to see it in person.

If you order online, make sure to check the merchant's return policy.  Understandably, they have to be kind of strict because otherwise they'd have brides buying a barrette or comb, using it once, and returning it.

Right now my favorite hair accessories are at http://www.haircomesthebride.com they have some really unique ones (some have starfish- so cool). And they have plenty of one that are just plain sparky. I design jewelry and I really admire they're work I think it has more of a personal touch then anything else I've looked at.

try etsy.com

i actually just went to claires, and got a rhinestone headband...it's not like a tiara or anything, it's the same style as the plastic ones you use, to just push your hair back...i'm not wearing a veil presently...i'd thought about a birdcage, b/c it is my personality, but i really do not want to take anything away from my dress...

also you can try ebay...we were going to do an old hollywood/mafia theme, and i'd found a woman selling sterling silver and pearl combs from 1933, for just $40...much better deal, than the ones i saw at davidsbridal, which i don't even thick were stainless steal...i'm not wearing them now, but given the age, i thought that just b/c one family didn't want them, doesn't mean they can't become an heirloom in mine ;)
