Post Your Ebay / Custom / China / or Peridress!

I've noticed, on this site as well as other bridal forums, a lot of brides posting their hesitancy to purchase from peridress or other overseas, custom, made-to-your-measurements types of vendors. The posts are followed by some good reviews, some bad reviews, and some suspiciously RAVE reviews.

One thing I can tell you for certain (becuase they even say so on their website) is that the designer gowns you see in the pictures they advertise are not the gowns you get. They find those pics on the internet, and then when you order, they make a dress from scratch, trying to get it as close to the picture as possible. So results vary. Details like fabrics used, laces, embellishment, color, etc may not be EXACT matches. So customers' level of satisfaction is kind of hit and miss.

One thing there is a lack of on all the posts/replies about these types of vendors is photos. So I have started this post inspired by the "post your dress" and "you versus the model" threads. Only I'm requesting that anyone who has ordered from this kind of vendor please post BOTH the original designer pic of the dress AND a pic of the dress you recieved.

Hopefully this thread will help some of you brides-to-be! Congrats and best wishes to all! Edited by: classydame on Jan 13, 2009 11:21 AM

I orderd AV9807 from peridress. I was very amazed that it turned out so well. I think, from talking to other people I know, that their quality must have gone up in the last year or so. The Alvina look a like I ordered was fairly plain though. It didn't show up in an envelope like others have posted. It came with the extra fabric, veil, gloves and color I ordered.

I actually tried on the real AV dress at a boutique and stumbled upon peridress that night while searching for a deal online.

I tried on the peridress dress and it had the same flattering seams, desing, etc.

I have a suspicion that people who've had bad experiences are either owners of expensive dress shops, ordered really intricate/hard to duplicate dresses, or never actually tried on the dress they saw in a magazine or online, or ever saw the dress in person.

I hate taking money away from our struggling economy at a time like this, but the AV dress was over $3300. I tried on a dozen designer dresses ranging from $1500-$4500. and I got my dream dress from peridress for $146.00.

It's worth a try. If it didn't work out I was only out $146. anyways right?

Hi All,
I fell in love with a model novias gown that was waaaay out of my price range (5k) and ordered a facsimile of it from peridress for 185$. It was made to my measurements and does fit well though clearly they were disapointed with my small bust and put some rather impressive padding in the bust. It is as close as you could get to the dress in the designers photograph using only the photo and cheap materials. Frankly I thought it would be much worse. As you can see this would not have been an easy dress to copy. So if you have a simple dress in mind it might be worth it but I won't be wearing this on my wedding day.

the real dress:

Hope that this is helpful
Gertie

If anyone can tell how to actually have these appear in the message let me know as the directions are less than helpful.

I've cross-posted this on a couple forums.

I ordered my dress from Peri Dress on February 24th and it came
yesterday. It looks amazingly similiar to the Christos gown that it is
a knock-off of. It's beautiful, though the hooks for the train will
need reinforcing, I'm pretty sure that's a really common thing among
bridal gowns. The sizing is perfect and it fits amazing. No alterations
will be needed at all. (I'm not wearing heels in the photo and it's fresh out of the box, hence the wrinkles, lol)

Here are some photos:

For
anyone
who is whining about the quality of the dress, this dress is
well sewn and although the fabric's aren't exactly the same as the real
gown, the look is very similar and if you're going to be that picky, go
spend the $5k on a dress instead of $150. Don't expect a miracle, and
don't nitpick it to death! You ALWAYS get what you pay for in one way
or another.

I
never
freaked out or tried to contact them. I got an e-mail when my
order was placed, confirmed, and shipped. I just decided to give them
the benefit of the doubt and see what happened. My dress was only $142
so if it didn't go over so well, no harm done. I paid with PayPal so I
might have a leg to stand on, too. Just in case. My wedding isn't until
June either. All you last minute Brides freaked out because you can't
contact someone, shame shame! Plan ahead and you won't have to worry
about these things. ;)

Don't waste your time or money ladies! I took a risk and ordered a dress through perimart and had a really bad experience.

So I ordered my dress around the middle of February. Around the end of February I got an e-mail to confirm my dress size. I gave them my exact measurements and asked when I would receive the dress. A woman returned my e-mail asking when I needed the dress. I told her around the end of March. I was surprised when my dress arrived around the middle of March. I was a bit nervous and really anxious! I picked up my dress from the Post Office and was shocked because it was in a really small package. Even so, I was trying to think positively. So I open the package and the dress is white! I ordered ivory. No big deal for $135 I can work with white. I try it on and it looks pitiful. Nothing that I would ever want to exchange wedding vows in. The dress I ordered has lots of small details. Anyway, I tried to e-mail peridress and explain the situation and see if they would allow a one time exception to their no exchange rule, since they made a goof. At first it seemed like the woman at peridress was really interested in helping me out. She responded to me quickly and seemed as though she would at least send me the right color. After 3 more e-mails on my part I never heard anything back...

I really shouldn't be surprised that a company would take advantage of people this way. It was just too good to be true.

So, it might work for you ladies who have a simple wedding gown, but it's definitely not a company I will ever use again or one I would recommend. Proceed with caution, be really open minded, and don't expect much!

If you're looking for an affordable gown try thrift stores, consignment shops, or even search for bridal stores going out of business. After this experience I found a bridal store that is trying to focus on prom dresses only. They are selling all of their bridal gowns for 1/2 off! High quality gowns that you are able to try on and walk out with and not break the bank!

Good luck!

I just wanted to follow up my original post with actual wedding photos. I also posted this in another thread on here.

Here are photos from our actual ceremony/wedding. Don't think I could
have asked for a more beautiful dress. The ONLY thing even remotely
close to an "issue" I had with it was that although there were hooks
for the train, we sewed it on anyway so that we knew it wouldn't come
off. I think that's an issue with almost every single bridal dress
though.
