Hey everyone!

I posted earlier in this thread but since then everything has changed! Well, the theme at least. It was going to be a mardi gras themed wedding since we'll be getting married in New Orleans and we're big into mardi gras, however, I want a classic beautiful wedding and not a drunken affair! =)

We're still going with Taravella Manor and we've had to bump the guest list up to 150 because FH is italian and has a huge family and his parents have business associates they want to invite. Thankfully they're covering the additional costs!

Our colors were going to be a burnt orange/brown fall colors but I fell in love with an indigo blue bridesmaid dress so now our colors are indigo/brown.

I also found my dress! I know, very early. I'm not ordering it until this october. Thankfully the maker of the gown never discontinues their dresses! (casablanca)

I also had bridesmaid drama (honestly though, who doesn't?) so I had to get rid of that bridesmaid. Thankfully a dear old friend of mine stepped up to the plate and saved me! We're having six each. I know, what were we thinking? Again, FH's fault!

On a positive note: my grandmother and maid of honor gave me my great-great grandmother's double stranded pearl necklace to wear for the wedding...and of course keep and give to my daughter for her wedding!

To love another person is to see the face of God.

Sounds like you're moving right along Rebecca. I still need to look at dresses! I am slacking lol. That's too bad about your bridesmaid. I hope I don't have to get rid of any of mine. But I don't think so since we are all family :)

Haha...it sounds like you might be stuck with your bridesmaids. BM was the first I asked because she's dating a GM (who is our roommate at the moment) and I really thought she was going to be around however she moved an hour away never called, never wanted to talk about the wedding, and was really mean to our roommate. They broke up and obviously she wouldn't be in the wedding anymore. I asked her if she still wanted to be a bridesmaid and she never responded to the question. (posed on facebook...yes I know but it's the only way I could get in touch with her) so...yeah...she's out. I guess that's what I get for asking a girl I barely know. In my defense, I didn't know she was moving away and we were getting along great. She's recently moved back but is ignoring everyone who know's her ex.

So we've figured out that we want to get married in some sort of park, or wooded area ect. lol. The one place we thought was perfect we found out was a private park, and the people who owned it before is now owned by some sort of real estate company, and we can't find any information about it.lol.

I had a brides maid decision i had to make. My best friend was going to be a bridesmaid but i then decided that if she's not going to make any attempt to talk to me, or help me with the wedding or have any contact with me, that she's not going to be in my wedding...

But anyways that's all ive really done, nothing much..

I am going to be an october 2010 bride too!!! Just got the go ahead from Dad and we are ring shopping this Sunday! I already know that i want to have the wedding on 10/15/2010 and I am going to have a fall theme since that's what I have always wanted. I'm kind of nervous to start planning the budget since we are mostly going to be paying for the wedding. Dad will throw some money in for sure but I doubt the groom's family will be able to contribute to much. How is everybody else splitting up costs?

We are paying for the wedding in full. That's why we will have been engaged for a little over 2 years by the time our wedding rolls around. My parents don't have the money. My fiancé's parents may give us $1,000 to $2,000, but nothing has been set in stone and we aren't counting on it.

We have been saving as much as possible so we will not have any debt after the wedding. I have see so many people charge so much money to credit cards to pay for their wedding and thats no way to start a marriage. We want a clean slate!

I'm with you Bailey2be we're engaged for so long for the exact reason. When the party is over I don't want to have to pay a thing. I recently saw a bride on TV who had to be opeing her wedding envelopes to pay some of the vendors. I don't want to be in any situation like that so we're saving like crazy to spend it all on the event of out dreams. We're even getting one of the preloaded credit cards so we can only spend what we've already put on it which will also make it more convenient paying for things.

Glad to see more 2010 brides in here!!! :)

To answer Samantha about the costs: my fh and I are pretty much paying for everthing ourselves. That is the main reason why we are waiting forever to get married lol. My fh's step-mom is giving us some money but that's it. My dad said in the beginning that he will help pay for the DJ but I highly doubt he will. He always says things like that and then leaves us hanging. I know him. So that is why I am planning on paying for the DJ alone. If in the long run he does pay for it then that's good, but I won't hold my breath. My dad is however "paying" for our honeymoon stay since he has time share.

Any more plans made ladies?

This weekend we are taking our engagement pictures!!!!!!!!!!! I am sooooo excited!!

Well, it sounds like we're all pretty much in the same boat. Luckily here in Utah weddings run pretty cheap ( mormons get married super young, so they have to) so I should be able to have a pretty nice wedding for what I'm planning on spending. The only thing that I really want and won't be able to have is an open bar and that's not so much a money issue as an argument with the groom (his family doesn't drink and he thinks it would make them uncomfortable).

Hey there ladies! How is everyone? As far as the planning goes, FH and I went to see a venue over the weekend and were sooo disappointed. The room we would be locked into called the Terrace room, well, was terraced and had this really obtrusive and ugly white banister. Not to mention water spots and damage to the ceiling tiles. The room was just so closed off that all you noticed were the issues. We would have had to put so much into decor that it just wasn't worth it. Which really bites since this place offers the best rates. So it's off to two more over the next couple days which I know are going to be much more elegant but more money. I also picked up a flower book to do some research on bouquets for the diy portion and wouldn't you know, happened on this absolutely awesome flower which I now can't find anywhere. Just my luck! :) It's the neatest thing though since I'm going with the whole red and white, the flower itself was red and white. Anywho. We also sat down with our first photographer which didn't go to bad. Just have to keep looking. To answer Samantha's questions about budget. FH and I are pretty much paying for our wedding, but recently, my parents have generously offered to help out with the venue. We've been putting money away for quite some time, even before we were engaged since we knew we were heading down this path anyway. With an engagement that will last over 18 months, I'm hoping that things will work out ok. We basically put every penny we can from each pay into savings. All I can say is it's a good thing for tax refunds and work bonuses!

Another question... Does anyone know where I can find one of the below:
1) A good replica dress maker
2) a used monique lluhllier xoxo dress
3) someone who would rent me their monique lluhllier xoxo dress

I really have my heart set on this dress ( it's the one in the picture) but the cheapest i've found it was for 6,000 which is way out of my budget. If anyone can help out I would appreciate it sooo much!! Thanks!

I, personally, wouldn't go with a replica dress maker. I've heard too many horror stories! However, it is possible to find dresses that are similar to the dress you want and in the price range that you want you just have to look! Maggie dresses, da vinci, and a few others make really lovely dresses for a fraction of that cost. I advise against david's bridal simply because of the way I was treated when shopping for a dress!

Budget: My FH's parents generously gave us the money to have the wedding as my family couldn't possibly afford to pay for it. We took a few thousand and paid off a few debts and the rest is going to the wedding. It's a little tight but we're making it work. I found my dream dress for $600 and we're going with a part time photographer instead of someone who makes their living doing that which is a few hundred dollars cheaper for the same quality pictures.

To love another person is to see the face of God.

we are also paying for the majority of the wedding ourselves as well, which is also a big reason for the long engagement too.

My Dad said he would help pay for it, but he has not said exactly how much. My fiances mom also said she would contribue $5k, so when we get that we are going to use that for the honeymoon.

Other than that, we are planning everything as if we were getting no money from anyone. That way, if we do get some contributions from family, its a nice added bonus. We could add it to the honeymoon fund, or spending money while on the honeymoon. Or, towards a nice album from the photographer, etc.

If you need to know the going rate of things, just start calling places and getting quotes. We found the going rate for a nice reception venue in CT is about $75-$120/per person. DJ's are anywhere from $1,100-$1,600. Photographers vary a TON!!! We found someone as cheap as $1,800, and some people as much as $8,000. Dresses are also have a huge price range. I got my dress as a sample, right off the rack at the store, and it was 1/3rd the price! We got a good deal on the tuxes, 50% off for the guys free for the groom.

Look around....you can get some good deals. Also, by going to bridal expos you can talk to lots of vendors, and can enter to win some things too. You can also get bridal expo discounts too.

I'm new to the community and recently engaged. We have set our date as October 2, 2010. We haven't done much yet. We have looked at a ceremony/reception site, have picked our colors, and asked our friends to be in the wedding. That's all we have done so far.
