I NEED MAJOR CENTERPIECE HELP!
Posted: Feb 13, 2009 1:35 AM

Hello!

I am having the HARDEST time finding gold centerpieces for my reception. We are actually getting married in Paris in May but are having a reception back home for extended family and friends. We are trying to incorporate the a Versailles sort of feeling. Our colors are light pinks, golds, and ivorys.

Do any of you fabulous brides-to-be have any suggestions???

Thanks so much!

xoxo

yep, you're right. This one is hard. I may have found a few things though...

http://www.wedding-candles.ca/Centerpieces/Large/4Hanging-gd.jpgI'm not a huge fan of the little flowers around the base, I think there's a way that could be more elegant. But I like the style of the hanging candles....

There's lots of other candleobra ideas here: http://www.wedding-candles.ca/candelabra-centerpieces.htm

From the same place:

Maybe using the fleur de lis as a central graphic:

Gold and silver fleur de lis confetti maybe?

This website here has a ton of fleur de lis merchandise from party-picks to candle holders:

I hope something there works for you. :)

I have some pictures of gold containers. However, spray paint can be your friend! Find an inexpensive container that you like and spray it gold. OR, use clear glass and fill it with gold (crystals, for example). Or, use a stone-like container (matching your ivory and having that antique French feeling) and then fill with flowers to match your colors. Add in gold accents if you wish. You could use gold picture frames for your table names and/or numbers or to hold pictures of you and FH and/or your families. Contact me through my website and I'll send you some pictures of these and other ideas.

Thank you so much for all your help! The only site that I found with gold candelabras was the one you mentioned at wedding-candles.com. Unfortunately, I really did not want to spend $30.00 per centerpiece x 13 tables for just a one-time use thing, thats not even including the florals... Hmmm... I think this is when craigslist is my friend!!

Thanks again for your help!

what did you think of the fleur de lis idea? and I agree - spray paint is GREAT! hehe

I think too you could get away with using an expensive candelobra on just a few of the tables, say 1/2 or 1/3 of them. Or just buy a couple for a special table like the guest book table or the buffet table maybe? Then if it's your style you could keep them afterwards for your home and it won't feel like quite as much of a waste. :)

If not buying what about renting? Like you can rent table linens and all that fun stuff? If you search around, you may be able to find some glam centerpieces for a fraction of the cost of buying. Plus you won't have to worry about what to do with them after the wedding!

Unfortunately, here in Sacramento the party rentals for candelabras are the same price as buying! Can you believe it?!?!? Completely crazyyyy..

Also, I do love the fleur-de-lis accents. Definately am wanting one of those for my cake :)

Just for the sake of throwing it out there - I had ad nauseum discussions with my florist about why the cost of renting glass vases from her was just as expensive as buying them. Really it boils down to two major reasons - first, the things that you rent are generally much higher quality than what you would buy (and if you were buying things of the quality they use, they would be significantly more expensive). The second reason is that when you rent the rental company takes care of the delivery, set up, clean up, etc. The last thing you want to be doing at the end of your wedding is waiting until everyone has left, and then figuring out how to pack 30 candelabras (or in my case hundreds of vases filled with water and floating candles) into the car. Just something to think about!

For a vintage candleabra look have you thought about hitting up thrift stores, yard sales, estate sales, etc.? Obviously you wouldn't find things that match, but that actually could be really cool as long as they still look coordinated.

MrsM - I second what you said about the glass vases. We had sunken flowers in these huge vases at our reception (see album) and the glass needed to be high quality w/very little imperfections to keep from getting bubbles on all the flowers and glass. The florist said EACH vase of that size could cost up to $300-$400!!! Yeah, like I need to buy vases that cost that much. And I know its for real because MIL "recreated" the look for two parties she's had since the wedding and no matter how clean the vase, and how well the flowers were rinsed, she couldn't get the bubbles to go away. I also agree that the less you have to set up (or oversee) on your big day, the better!

Great concept! I can picture it now.

For your centerpiece containers try sdflowers.com. They have a Fleur de Lys Distressed clay stone square container for $3.20. (http://www.flowersandsupplies.com/Fleur-de-Lys-Distressed-Clay-Container_p_1541.html
)
Fleur de Lys Distressed Clay Container
They are very "old world" and would be perfect. To add gold I wouldn't cover the whole vase in spray paint though you would be welcome to. Rather, go to Michale's Art's and Crafts. They have TONS of finishing paint, spray paint, as well as rub on gold leaf. If this were my project I would suggest buying Treasure Gold brand rub on metallic finish in gold.

Simply use your fingers to rub the gold on the fleur dy lys on the clay vase to bring out the texture. Just on the raised edges. This gives a gold look without breaking the bank and without looking cheesy. You can also try a "Liquid Leaf" gold paint but I love the look of the gold rubbed on the vase. (You can also try http://www.flowersandsupplies.com/Greco-Roman-vintage-finish-metal-container_p_1387.html. A metal urn for $6.25 which can then be painted with Michael's "patina" to give a wonderful gold antique finish".)
Ideally I would suggest Pink Peonies, with darker Ranunculus and ivory Hydrangeas and pink roses like below:

. If you are on a budget I would suggest inexpensive pink Larkspur:
(here it is arranged with white hydrangeas.)

OR Pink Tuberose which has a beautiful fragrance:

Light Pink Lisianthus :

and Darker Pink roses:

You have an oppulent look for a lot less. If you are in the Sacramento area..perfect! Visit Mom's Wholesale Florist for amazing prices, they are open to the public!! www.momsflowers.net. Phone: (916) 729-2231.

Hello, Just thought I'd through this out there. Have you tried searching Ebay for Wedding or Party Centerpiece Candle Lamp Holder?

Since you're getting married in Paris, would you like to have a "Eiffel Tower" centerpieces at your back home reception? I think you can find them on ebay for like $20+ each.
