Okay, maybe not sweet, but I am short! I'm 5' nada" and about 100lbs. I was wondering what dresses would be best on someone of my size, or rather, lack thereof. I've read to stay away from big ol' poofy dresses because I'll look like a cupcake, but I haven't really found any suggestions. Any of you ladies kid sized, and have found a great dress?
Yes, stay away from poofy, they will really overwhelm your figure!
A slim a-line will look really good on you. An empire waist will make you look a little taller. This would be the best waistline to pick if your hips are your "trouble spot"
Also, if your torso is shorter, and your legs are longer (In proportion to your size) or you plan on wearing some nice heals, another waistline to consider is the basque waist. It ellongates your torso and adds to the "height" illusion. Basque wasit would be especially good if you don't really have much for "curves", and want to add this illusion. Also, basque waist is good for slimming. (It's an overall flattering look) Halter v-neck styles are probably most flattering as well. I don't know your specific style (Do you like lace, flowy, "princessy", informal, formal, unique?), but I can give you some picture examples of what I mean :)
(I worked selling formalwear for about 6 months. It's amazing how many people pick dresses that are just wrong for them, and you're right, a short girl in an overly poofy dress looks like a cupcake.)
The Camille dress (Which you like) is mermaid. You can pull a mermaid off if you have a proper figure, this specific style is really something you need to try on and see. It really works best on someone that has at least a little bit of curve, to someone with an amazing hourglass that shows off well. If your figure is entirely straight (No curve at all) the mermaid gown doesn't do much to flatter your figure and make you look so womany.
These are some other Maggie mermaids I really like:
