What are the best places to live?

Hello Ladies. I don't really post on here very often but I am on these forums all the time and I was wondering if any of you could please give me some advice?

FH and I have been having trouble finding work since college but he recently began working at Sams Club to pay the bills. Well apparently he was told that after a certain amount of time, I believe it was 90 days he could transfer to any Sams Club in the country. This got us thinking, especially FH, that it would be fun to move somewhere new. Right now we are living in Pittsburgh, PA, but if neither of us can find a good job in the next 6-12 months we agreed that we would try moving somewhere else. My question to you Ladies is, where should we go?

We prefer small town areas to city life. We want a good view, like water or mountains or anything aesthetically pleasing really. Warm weather is always nice too. We both went to school for film & TV, but I will probably end up pursuing photography and FH has a good background in computer repair so really anywhere would be good. We've talked about moving to Delaware, North Carolina, Arizona or even (though we probably wouldn't go this far) Hawaii, but FH wanted outside opinions and he told me I should post on here and ask. So I am :)

So what do you think? Does anyone live anywhere really nice or know of anywhere? Where are some of the best places to live? I'd really appreciate your thoughts and opinions!!

Hey, I'm from Youngstown, OH, originally so not far from you! I moved to MA a year and a half ago and DO NOT recommend it! Haha... not to offend anyone that's from here... I actually don't hate the area itself, it's just that it's so expensive and so many people everywhere! We can't wait to move back to Ohio, hopefully this summer. As of now, I've been snowed/iced in for over a week and I'm going crazy, LOL (winter is definitely worse up here).

I would just say to really look at the economy and what industries are prominent in the area you're moving to. For example, I wouldn't move anywhere near a car plant right now! With the economy like it is, I'd just do a lot of research. Also, are there any areas where you have friends and family already living? That would make it alot easier. It's hard to move someplace where you know NO ONE. My best friend recently moved about an hour and a half away from where we live, and it's been much easier just knowing there's someone within driving distance that I can go to in an emergency.

Anyway, there's nice areas and not so nice areas of any state or city... so investigate, see if you can take a trip there for a week or so. Good luck!

We live in the Denver area, and love it! It generally doesn't stay cold all through winter, in fact, some days it's really sunny, and even warm throughout winter. It does snow though, so you have all the seasons and can go skiing pretty much all over! The cost of living isn't bad, and the summers are nice too. We love it, my husband has lived here about 17 years now, and I've been here with him since 2006. If you have any questions, I'd be glad to pm you. We love it here. :) Good luck with whatever you choose.

Haha, HLYfute, I was just about to post not to move to MA. You beat me to it! I might be a bit biased because they haven't bothered to plow my apartment complex and we almost got in an accident on Saturday when someone decided to whip around us in the snow and cut our car off. So far I'm three for three for car rides this weekend - I've ended all three in tears. (And asking myself why a Florida girl agreed to live in MA and commute 25 minutes).

On a happier note, I LOVE NC. FH and I would like to move there eventually - we went to school in the Triangle (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill) and just love it. We're getting married down there next year. It seems like money for houses goes a long way.

If you look at NC, I would avoid the Charlotte area. It's been hit pretty hard by layoffs thanks to the banking and legal industries.

LOL Karebear... I tried to go to target yesterday. They HAVE been plowing my parking lot... so much so that the snow was piled up PAST the bumper of my car! Spent 45 minutes with a shovel digging it out. I got stuck in the snow trying to get out of the parking lot, because they didn't bother to plow that part. Then, I got about 15 feet down the road, and my windshield fogged up. I tried to use the washer fluid, but it froze on the glass. I had to stop, get out, scrape the windshield... I did about a 7 point turn around b/c I couldn't really see very well and went back home. I should have just walked to target, it's only about 3 miles down the road.

I think the OP should move someplace warm :-).

Also, to OP-- consider how much it will cost you to get home to see your families. You didn't mention if you're originally from Pittsburgh or not. But when I moved out here in 2007, I could easily get a flight home for around $100, maybe $150 if it was a holiday weekend. Now, it's at least $200, often more... so I'm not traveling home as much as I'd hoped to be able to when I left.

I can recommend NOT Connecticut. Unless you want to over pay for everything, get a house a fraction of the size of practically every other state for 3x the price, deal with traffic congestion and hang out with snooty yuppies... ;) j/k.

I've lived in CT my whole life and I'll probably stay here for a long time. I've just heard it's very difficult to adjust to for people that move here from out of state. Convenient location though.

They have lists of "the best places to live" on cnn.com all the time. The biggies are usually CO, NC, and parts of TX. Good luck!

Steff, I agree with you on everything being overpriced. Me and FH are looking for an apartment for after we're married (right now we live with my parents in an apartment.. I tried moving out once but ex-roommates screwed me over and I had no choice but to move back in.. I had no where else to go) FH had to move out because we thought his parents were moving to indiana after his dad got a job at a casino up there. Turns out he hated the job and moved back to Connecticut. FH's aunt, uncle, and 2 cousins had to move in FMIL's house and now if FH moved back in, he'd have no place to sleep.. so he's staying with me and my parents and pays my dad rent each week. (sorry if I confused anyone lol) Everyone says connecticut is expensive to live in.. I find that to be kinda true I've never been on my own but I'm working on it. The cheapest apartment that I found in connecticut is over $700.

Dear Stary,

The daughter and SIL of a friend of mine were in a similar situation a couple of years back. They could go "anywhere", and spend about 6 months researching different places.

They ended up in Asheville, North Carolina, and are very happy there.

One more plug for CO, Castle Rock, CO (where we live) was one of the top 25 on family circle last year. We love it. It is not at all overpriced either, as far as COL goes.

Well, don't come to So Cal unless you have a job waiting for you, want to live in a tiny place for a huge rent, love traffic (especially the west side- yuck!) and people who are always in a hurry- think NYC with a tan.

On the other hand the weather is usually nice (although I'm freezing in 38 at night right now), and if you get a place inland on a hill the view of the ocean will take your breath away on the days that you can actually see the ocean.
