"the feeling"
Posted: Aug 26, 2008 1:39 AM

hey, fellow brides. so i have looked at/tried on about 50 dresses at this point. i have a definite fav, but i haven't had that magical omg-i-know-this-is-the-dress feeling. i'd say i'm about 90% sure. i am also very indecisive by nature. my MOH also says that i am too practical for that feeling, since i think about price, etc. any thoughts?

Did you check out David's Bridal? They have a ton of dresses for under a 1,000 and right now they are having a sale. I found my dress there completely unexpectedly. I didn't even ask to try it on! The girl just asked if I wanted her to bring another one!

yea, i have and i didn't like their selection. my fav. dress is mary's bridal http://www.marysbridal.com/gownoftm.htm. i really like it and have compared every other dress to it. i just don't have that feeling or certainty, but i'm not sure it's in my personality. thanks for your suggestion

Your dress is stunning.  The bodice has such a nice design.  I think it's funny that you say it's not in your personality.  I feel the exact same way.  When I shop for expensive things I have to check out every option at every store before I make a decision.  It's impossible to do that with wedding dresses and it was very difficult to put an end to my search.  I think in the back of my mind I thought maybe there was something at a store far away that is even more awesome than this dress and I just don't know about it.  I say 90% is a great number and you should feel comfy buying it.  Chances are no other dress will beat this one.  Sorry for the long post!

I never had "the feeling" either -- I actually had 2 dresses that I knew I'd be very happy wearing, and I had an awful time choosing between them.  (Practical girl that I am, I made the call based partly on price -- one bridal salon was having a 15% off sale and the owner threw in a discount on top of that.)

For me, it was very liberating to realize that I don't have to find "the perfect dress."  The fact that I loved the dress, felt beautiful in it, and wouldn't have to spend a fortune on it was enough -- there's no rule saying I had to look and look and look until I had the "OMG" moment. I say, if you still love this dress more than the other 49 you tried on, go for it!

WOW! I loved that dress when I first saw it. But no one sold her dresses locally (sad). I love Mary's dresses they are so beautiful and affordable.

I didn't have that exact feeling untill after my dress was orderd, it came in and I put it on then I felt like OMG This Is Totally MY DRESS! Personally I bought a Demetrio's gown myself. It was the 10th dress I tried on. Pricy but made well and imported from Italy. Every detail is sewn by hand! I did research on Mary's and she does the same with hers. It wasn't "just" about pice it was the quality of the dress too. We spent way more then expected but it was worth it. I don't think most people take that into consideration. There is a LARGER bridal chain that the dresses are pass production.

50 dresses, wow that is alot.  but if you have been comparing it to all other dresses, then maybe that's the one.  And you wont "feel it" till it comes in.

You said your "personality". Are you more simple? casual? or does that dress just make you feel too formal? too princess like? And what "type" of wedding are you planning? Just some things too think about.

my personality i would say is simple but elegant, and def. practical. i'm emotional, but quietly so. def. more introverted. i have definitely narrowed the style i want: ballgown, ornate top with a little something on the bottom, but not too plain. strapless sweetheart with a defined corset. beading over lace, with some silver.

ii feel good in that dress and i like the way i feel in it. it's my fav. b/c of the style and the price. the only other look i'm drawn to is this: http://www.audreyhart.com/larger/page_032.png. it used to be my fav, but now i think the top is too simple, but i love the look of the scalloped bottom. it is about twice as much as the mary's dress tho, and i don't think it's worth. but the mary's one is beatiful and has a detachable train, so it'd be easy for the reception.

YAY! I was voting for it! ... glad you made your choice. Don't get me wrong, the second dress is stunning. But yay for Mary's.
