How does everyone feel about pairing chocolate brown bridesmaid dresses with black tuxedos?  I'm getting mixed reviews.

I like the idea- I think black and brown is quite stylish (as is navy and black whick is supposed to be another "don't" combo). I say go for it!! I would pay attention to the texture (matte tux and shiny satin BM, for ex.), though, to make sure the overall look works. I think it sounds gorgeous!

i'm sure there are photos of it somewhere...

found one!

I think this works out well because the grown isn't too dark, it's more of a milk-chocolate colour.

What do you think?

I'm using this bridesmaids dress:

(no gloves), and we are definitely using black tuxes.  I honestly think using brown tuxes would be just .... too much, for lack of a better explanation.  Good luck!

I totally agree with you that brown tuxes would be too much...I'm just having a difficult time convincing my fiance that we won't look silly in that color combination.

This is the bridesmaid dress I'm thinking of, in the chocolate color:

I was thinking the guys vests could match the sash around the girls' waists.

That pic Nalaimenea posted pretty much sums it up...chocolate BMs go pretty nicely with Black tuxes.

Go for it!! We're doing it, and I was slightly hesitant at first.  As the PP said- go for a really nice chocolate brown and you'll be fine.

We have chocolate brown dresses, the guys are in black tuxes, white shirts with chocolate brown vests/ties.  My dress is slightly off-white-- FH is in a black tux with a very slight pin stripe, white shirt and the same colour vest as my dress.

It's going to be lovely!!! pink is our accent colour :)

That is a nice color of brown. I think it's light enough that it doesn't look funky -- if you have a brown so dark that it's almost black then it looks weird. If you love that color brown, then there is no reason to pick a different color. Tuxes really should be black. It might look nice if you put the groomsmen in a chocolate vest to match -- you could pair the chocolate vest with a different color tie that matches the girls' sashes. I think that would make everything flow very nicely. But don't rule out your favorite color because of other people!
