Sash or no Sash?
Posted: Jul 18, 2008 11:48 PM

I'm wearing the Sottero & Midgley 5049 on the big day.  I wanted to add a grape sash to really emphasize a skinny (almost empire) waist.  However i'm not sure it will work with the angled gathering.

What do you guys think?

Wearing a sash with the angled gathering might take away from the original design of that dress.  I could imagine wearing the sash if all the "detail," or the gathering of the fabric was not so angled, but since it is, a sash might distort the overall balance of the dress.  However, there is really only one way to find out.  Can you try the dress on with a sash and post the pictures here???

yeah my first fitting is tomorrow, so i'll be sure to give an update. I'm so excited!!

I do agree though, it might just take away from the dress itself.

I say No sash. I think you would be able to tell that the sash was not part of the original design. It just wouldn't flow.

I'd go with no sash on that particular design. If you wanted to add color, you could do a bunch of violets (check out Vera Want and Reem Acra--they're doing details like this). But, really, that dress doesn't need anything.

I vote for no sash as well. I just don't think that it would fit in with the dress.

Oh no sash! I can tell from how much fabric is left on the floor that you aren't tall. A sash will just chop you wihile this beautiful gathering could make you look taller. I understand wanting the sash to emphasize a a small waist, but it is already very clear you have a small waist. You don't need it. Go for the height.

nicolemb15 - Ha ha I think I'm the only one that would say to go for it! If you like the sash with the dress, then do what YOU want. You are the one wearing it and if you like it and feel beautiful in it then go for it. I'd def. try trying on the dress with a sash to make sure. Maybe you could drape it instead of pulling it tight. I never thought a hot pink skirting would go with my wedding dress or that a seamstress would pull off the look I wanted but it totally happened so at least try. Then you'll know for sure. Beautiful choice of wedding gown btw!

NO way, no sash. It would totally cover up the most interesting part of the dress.

no sash for this particular dress. The angled design is really cool and you wouldn't be able to see it as well with a sash.

simple is good. :)

It definitely looks better without the sash.  Good choice!!!
