Other than cake?

We are planning very down to earth wedding.  The ceremony and reception is going to be at a private hanger located on a ranch.  With that we are having BBQ for our meal.

Instead of a cake... we thought of going with cobbler.  Sticking with our red/white/blue color theme having raspberry and blueberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream.

Anyone else doing something other than cake?

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, cheesecake in one hand, rum in the other, body totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!

we're having a fall wedding and i was thinking of doing several different things: frozen hot chocolate from serendipity's, caramel apples or caramel apple pie and s'mores since our reception site has this amazing stone fireplace that i wanted to use somehow that nite.

you could serve your cobbler in champagne glasses--i've seen desserts being served like that on a lot of wedding shows lately.

p.s. love the line in your signature

When is my wedding

We're thinking about doing a bunch of different flavours of cupcakes, maybe even decorate your own, with a bigger one to cut.

I attended a wedding where they had individual apple pies stacked up to look like a wedding cake. The cool part was that the ceramic pie dishes had the wedding couple's names and wedding date painted at the bottom and they were the wedding favors.  Very unique!

I give all props to those that can do a wedding without traditional cakes. I can't do it though, I have no gutsCry

I'm about to be Mrs. Fredrick Usher

I love your cobbler idea! And Genn, love the idea of Serendipity hot chocolate. Do they allow you to order that from them directly? Just curious. I love that place, go there often. Is your wedding in NYC? I also had my wedding in late fall and we did the hot chocolate thing which went over HUGE. We also did an apple cider with cinnamon sticks toast along with champagne..(both were on the table) ... I think your caramal apples would also work really well for a favor for guests to take home, prewrapped. Just an idea.

We are doing a traditional cake, however, WE, FH & I, have arranged to have our very own special wedding pie served for our dessert.

We are doing a dessert table with frozen desserts from Sam's Club. They've got great little eclaires, mini cheesecakes, cream puffs and chocolates. They all look pretty fancy for just being retail desserts in a box. They just need time to defrost, then they can be set out on the table. Inexpensive and easy!

I'm doing pie for my wedding. My grandma makes this OUTSTANDING peanut butter pie, seriously one piece is so rich, it's great! But I figured that'd be our "pie to cut and feed each other" and then have several other assorted pies like fruit, creme and such from the local baker so everyone can find something they like! Plus we're having "Buckeyes" the little peanut butter and chocolate candies cause I graduated from Ohio State and we're having a very small "OU" cake cause FH graduates from Ohio University. We thought it'd be fun to have stuff from our schools! Plus, anyone who really really didn't like pie, could have a tiny piece of cake or a Buckeye!

Hey Sallysgettingmarried!! I've been trying to find a stand of some sort to display the pies in a tier fashion like a cake. Do you have any pics or info on the pie stand from the wedding you attended? I just can't find the right way to do it!

Cobbler sounds fantastic! Kool idea:*)

We are trying to incoporate different cultural aspects for our wedding since FH is Colombian, his adoptive parents are white Americans and my fam is African-American.

For the "American" aspect, we are pulling from "America is baseball and apple pie"-- So we're having...dun, dun, dun...Apple Pie w/ Vanilla Ice Cream. Which is perfect for us b/c neither of us really like cake all that much...hopefully our guests think it's a good idea.
