Re: Sweetheart Table...
Are you asking what a sweetheart table IS or if you should have one? A sweetheart table means just you and the Groom, alone, together... usually it is a smaller version of all the other guest tables, and its normally toward the front of the room, I guess sort of "showcased" facing your guests. But thats just one option. You could probably set up the room however you wanted.
So if you want it to be just you and him, then thats a Sweetheart table. If you want family there with you or your wedding party, thats a head table. We had me, hubby, parents, BestMan MOH, their hubbys, and our siblings. It was awesome. And we had our table circular like everyone elses... I dont like the big long head tables, but thats just my personal preference.

Re: Sweetheart Table...
Sorry kelleylynn, I know what it is. My coordinator has ours on a wall opposite the rest of the tables, and I was thinking it might be better to be mixed in, rather than on display. Thanks for the advice though.

Re: Sweetheart Table...
Just realize with a sweetheart table your the center of attention. Expecially if your table is opposite everyone elses. Thats the whole point is for the bride and groom to be admired. Putting a sweetheart table in with guests tables is a step away from that idea being your less on display.
I personally hate being so much the center of attention. Especially when I'm eating! So I personally would go with a table with the guests with several other people at it, maybe the bridal party or parents. Sit with whom every you want to talk to for half the reception.

Re: Sweetheart Table...
Ohokay. Sorry about that ChrisLady, just wasnt sure what you were asking.:)Id say go with what the other poster said. If you dont mind being "on display" then place the Sweetheart table facing your guests against the wall, as your Coordinator suggests. But if you want to feel more mixed in, then you could always tell her youd prefer the table to be placed somewhere a bit more "within the guests." Either way, you are the Bride and Groom...so all the toasts, kissing, etc will be happening around you, so just make sure your guests can see you from whatever angle you choose to put the table.

Re: Sweetheart Table...
We had our sweetheart table mixed in with the other guests, it worked out really well. I definitely didn't feel as though I were on display or anything (though I wouldn't have cared, lol) nor did I feel as though I were hidden amongst the other guests, it was perfect. Here is a photo of us. You can see how close the other guests are but yet how private it kind of was at the same time. This shot was taken by a guest, too, not the professional photographer and it is one of my mom's favorite picture's from the day because she said we look like we are the only two people in the room, just totally in love. :)

Re: Sweetheart Table...
I want mine on an elevated rotating dias in the middle of the room. And everyone has to kiss my ring and bow to me before they can enter the buffet line because its MYYYYYYYYYY DAAAAAAAAAY.
I'm kidding. I'm a loon. I would rather be mixed in with my guests. I'd feel kinda weird if I felt like everyone was staring at me while I was trying to eat. ![]()

Ooooooh... I didn't think about spot lights!
I really like newsjunkies table. It's not a focal point but you're still visable to everyone. Really cool!

Re: Sweetheart Table...
We basically nixed the idea of a sweetheart table and a traditional head table and went with this. . .
It's hard to describe but bear with me and try to picture it. . .
Our ballroom is rectangular and at the center at one end of the rectangle is our head table, extending parallel to the long sides of the ballroom.
The head table is a long rectangle table, with two half moons on each end. We will sit at one end, facing our guests, but without feeling like everyone's looking at us all the time. (this is my problem with sweetheart tables and head tables. I don't want to feel like I'm sitting on a throne, nor do I want to sit apart from my guests.) Also, FH really didn't want to sit with his back to anyone.
This table will seat approximately 30 people, including parents, step parents, siblings, wedding party and their spouses. Picture it like one of those family tables you see in italian movies, only with two people at the head of the table.
All around us (except behind us) are the circular tables of our guests. I am really excited about this arrangement. The rather large head table will have two big floral centerpieces; the rest of the tables will have smaller versions of ours. It helps to anchor the room, I think, and gives the whole room it's own kind of centerpiece.
Can you tell I recently met with my wedding coordinator and my florist? I am so psyched to see how it all turns out. . .

Re: Sweetheart Table...
I tried to find a picture, but couldn't so I hope this makes sense...we had our table in one corner (a small square table) then we had a bridesmaids table (a rectangle table that allowed their spouses to sit with them) and a groomsmen table (same rectangle/with dates) on either side of us, but not connected to our table. So we almost formed an "L" with us at the corner. We had a few minutes to ourselves, but we were not alone on one side of the room. Our families and other guests were at various rectangle and circular tables.
Here is a link to our pictures, but I don't think any give you a clear layout of our table set up:

Re: Sweetheart Table...
We are having a sweetheart table, I recently found out about these and loved the idea so we are doing it.
We are setting up two 8 ft tables on both sides of ours one for the bridesmaids and one for the groomsmen and then our sweetheart table in the middle all up in front of the guests. I'm also setting the bridal cake and the groomsmens cake up in front one at each end of the room that way when we go to cut the cake we will have everyone attention. We are cutting are cake about 15 minutes before dinner ends so we have a captive audience. The last few weddings that I've been to the cake was set in the back or way off to the side and when the bride and groom went to cut it, nobody even realized it. I thought this was one of the things people like to witness, it's one of the things I always look forward to and I want to involve my guests in these special moments as well.
