Hi! I don't think that with the size of wedding you are planning, and the fact that most will be family, programs are a "must"! I'd skip it, if I were you. I can tell you a couple really inexpensive ideas for some centerpieces if budget is a real big issue! We bought some beautiful clear tall glass vases from our local Dollar Tree Store! $1 each, of course! We are filling them with colored stones, clear water, then adding a floating candle! Then placing them on  mirrors, rented from our local party store ( 75 cents each! ) and surrounding that with rose petals! Viola! Instant centerpiece! Or, you could go with three various sized candles in the center of the mirror, for a different effect! Try a few different options until you find the one that's right for you! Good luck! I'm sure it will be lovely! Laughing  P.S. Ushers probably would not be necessary; but I would probably have them myself.

Those are some good ideas that I will have to try out as far as centerpieces. I never thought of colored stones. Is it cheesy to use silk rose petals to try and cut cost? What exactly do ushers do? I know that they seat guests for teh ceremony. My issue is that there are only going to be about half as many people on my side as there is on his. Does it really matter what side people sit on? Could groomsmen double as ushers? Panic has started to set in. Can you tell? Thank you for all of your suggestions.

Hey kksmom, welcome! Yes, groomsmen can double as ushers. And I do think it would be a good idea to have someone seating guests. You don't need to do a brides side and grooms side. Just ask the ushers to seat everyone whereever they'll fit. Thats how we're doing it. FH has about 7 family members (and they're all the ones who will be in the re servered area in the front!) and a few friends. The other 125 people are mine! Definitely no dividing sides on that one.

For my centerpieces, I am using 4" ivy vases and putting colored stones in the bottom and setting a votive candle (that has a holder so it doesnt melt all over the rocks) inside. Tying a ribbon around the top of the vase and setting that on a mirror and then scattering fake flower petals around. Originally I wasn't going to use mirrors (but then my mom found them for $1 each at dollar store), so if you're looking for cheaper, you could go with out. I see no problem with silk petals, for that I think it would make more sense so they won't wilt! In fact, all my flowers are silks and they are looking great!

My centerpieces before I got the mirrors cost $48 for 24. Adding the mirrors only added another $24.

To finish the decor, on the other tables like cake table, escort card table and maybe gift table (am I forgetting any?), I just bought 1/2 size votive candles (6 for $1!) and $1 votive holders (I've totally found all the bargains on decor!) that match the centerpiece vases, and I'm just going to spread the candles out on these tables and scatter more petals. Those cost $40 and thats the only other decor I'm using aside from centerpieces (my reception venue has art exhibits on the walls so I cant remove them or put anything up. I don't want to anyway!)

Well if it's "cheesy" to use silk petals instead of real; mark me down on the cheesy list, too; because that's what we are using! lol Depending on your preferences, ushers do a number of things. They seat the guests, we are having ours ( for daugter's wedding ) light the candleabras at the beginning of the ceremony since the groom's Mother has health problems and unable to do this herself. Otherwise she and I would have done this. They also roll out the aisle runner before the bridal party walks down the aisle. They then usually stand at the end of each pew to release the guests at the end of the ceremony too. I personally don't think it matters one iota which "side" guests sit on! I would rather see a well-evened gathering throughout than a huge group on one side and no one on the other! I suppose if done right, groomsmen COULD double as ushers. I'd speak to your officiant and ask his/her thoughts on that first, however. They may have a suggestion as to how to make it go smoothly when they are "doubling up" on their duties! Anyway, again, good luck! Don't PANIC!!! It will be BEAUTIFUL; just wait and see!!! Laughing

Well ladies, I am just about 2 weeks away from the wedding. Surprised  Just kidding...so far all is going well.  I'm not quite freaking out yet.  Last night my MOH, FH, and I sat down and started making the favors.  Originally we weren't going to do them, but I decided last min. that it would be fun (since our colors are chocolate and blue) to make choclolate covered pretzels and drizzle white chocolate that has been dyed blue, over them.  So far we have probably a hundred or so done...who knows though.

For those of you asking about the silk flowers...we're using silk in the centerpieces.  We have 8"x8" round vases that we are puting white rock in the bottom of, then placing this really pretty blue silk oriental lilly in there, fill it with water and having three floating candles on top.  Also, around it we are doing three votive candles.  We got an awesome deal on the glass from a glass factory and on the candles.  Hobby lobby had a sale for 2lbs of the rock for $1.  Then the silks were half off.  The centerpieces were probably more expensive than I would have intended, but i'm really happy with them.

Let's see what else is done.  Met with officiant to go over ceremony (he's my cousin)  Got Music list of to DJ.  Photographer is sending the final paper with timeline and shot sheet.  All the guys are just about fitted for the tuxes.  Just one more who needs to do it (FH's stepfather) but he's injured so we let it slip Laughing.  I was supposed to meet with the harpist...she got the days wrong (i was slightly annoyed at this) but we are rescheduling that.  Seamstress hass my dress (I only need a hem and a bustle!)  Oh and the best part....Bachelorette Party this weekend.  A whole weekend event in Chicago with 14 girls!!!!  I couldn't believe that 13 people liked me enough to spend a weekend in Chicago with me....I'm so happy they are though, it will be a blast.

WHEW....I think I can stop there!  Keep on planning ladies!!!

It looks like I am pretty much in the same boat as everyone else, nothing major to do at this point, just finishing the last minute tasks. I am however still trying to find out if several guests are going to show or not (RSVP's were due the 12th). That is slightly annoying, but I'm fairly sure they aren't coming anyway, I just want to verify this with them. Is anyone leaving something (basket of goodies, etc.,) at the hotel for their out of town guests? If so, what? I'm trying to think of something thoughtful, but not too expensive - maybe some cookies?

Wow, our weddings are getting so close! Our first September weddings are next weekend! I can't believe after a year of planning its finally so close. Wow.

I don't have a whole lot left. I've done quite a bit in the last week. Had my bridal shower Sunday! Bought the rest of my flowers and decorations (and came in $60 under budget!) on Monday, then had my hair and makeup trial Tuesday and met with the pastor, organist and wedding coordinator at our church wednesday. We're supposed to be getting a USB drive from our DJ that we'll make our play list on. I think thats next week. I have to go to my mom's every Monday to work on flowers, the program and unity candle either until they're don or until the wedding. Kind of a pain because its an hour away. I didn't realize how much we had left to do until I finally remembered I have to decorate the unity candle too.

RSVPS are still trickling in. I'm undecided about trying to follow up with whoever we don't get cards from. I dont have all the phone numbers and such. I really feel that if they don't send me the card and then show up anyway then they don't deserve to eat, but that probably isn't the right attitude to have Foot in mouth

We don't have very much left to pay for either, just the last payment to the photographer, FH's tux, the DJ and the catering/bar. wow! and I need to hound three out of the four groomsmen to order their tuxes (one already has) but I"ll be seeing them this weekend.

Unfortunately now I"m a little under the weather. FH was sick earlier this week and I think I managed to catch it (stinks I don't usually catch cold from him!). We're going out of town this weekend to see the inlaws and go to our fantasy football draft. we're still in a league with our friends in Southern Illinois. Much fun will be had and beer willl be consumed and I sure hope I can enjoy it. I'm SOOOOO tired right now, I almost wish I had called in sick to work.

Allright, thats it for now. I'll leave you with pics from my hair and makeup trial!

I, too, am pretty much done with everything. The florist, limo, dj, photographer and viedographer are all paid.  The only ones left are the reception site and the church.  I'm paying the reception site next weekend when I meet with them for final numbers and I'm paying the church the night of the rehearsal.

Can't believe I'll be married 3 weeks from tomorrow!!!  I got my programs and menu's and love how they came out!  the only thing is that I missed two spelling errors.  They are on the back with all the thank you's so I hope it gets missed.  Silly me didn't catch it when they sent me a proof.  Oh well.  I panicked about it for about an hour and then thought, well... if this is the worst that happens I'm doing okay.  nothing I can do about it now.

I have my final dress fitting next Saturday so that's exciting.

I think that's all I can think of right now.  So exciting!  Now we just pray for beautiful weather!!

September 15th, 2007 I'm his forever...

Well, I too have also been very busy have not been here in a while and only have 2 weeks from today that will be MRS. ROGER A. HAYES.  All is going a little smoothly just for today . Decided this weekend  I would take a wedding prep Break.  I know it is too close to time for me to do that with all the insanity that goes along with prepping for the wedding . this is giving me reflect time  on all that i have accomplished and all that  i still have to do . I am actuallly glad that I have done this. I have my Dress , Veil and Tiara, still have to go pick up my Shoes, and Rings have been Purchased. Laughing  responses for the reception are still coming in Believe it or Not. and since we are marrying & Honeymooning in Las Vegas  with reception in our hometown. our Flight is booked the Hotel is Booked Reception Hall paid for 3 months ago  now all that is left is to talk with Caterer to do final meal plan  and decorate the hall. I went with my Friend the Other night to  AC Moore  and purchased the Centerpiece Materials They  are having a Saler on ALL GLASS ITEMS  70% off which WE BOTH though was absolutely lovely so the Plan is when I go home 8/26 I wil work on them (putting them together) Silk Leaves will be placed on the tables  as well as Silk leaves being in the Bottom Of the Centerpiece with a Candle Sitting high up top (candle Wax will not drip on the sides got a candle that just burns in the Middle). Oh and I also Made Programs, They are Trifold  and Printed on Ivory Parchment Paper  and they look absolutely Lovely will supply a copy of one later.am ALso Making CD's of Our Favorite Music Using Lightscribe with Our Names on them  and wedding Date . Had a crazy wedding planning week last week and now its just little things. We still need to schedule a tasting because we couldn't decide what type of potatoes to include in the buffet. I'm hoping to do that late next week. Just got the stuff we need to decide reception music play and do not play lists and all the other special stuff we need music for... we have a few ideas, but probably won't really do anything until this weekend.

Flowers are in progress. I keep saying my mom and I are doing them, but really I only paid for them. My mom is doing all the work and its amazing even though she insisted she had no clue how to do it. Hopefully by time I go back next week she'll finish the rest... we needed to buy more pearl spray things. Next week my mom and I will finish the program and decorate the unity candle.

So not as much, but still plenty to do. I need to coordinate with the DJ, caterers and photographer the itinierary for the day and then write something down to send the bridal party members. I've got a rough idea since I've been talking to all three lately, but I just need to put it all together in my head. I also need to get in touch with the restaurant we're having the rehearsal dinner at and figure out how to do the preorder.

Went to visit inlaws and friends in southern illinois this weekend becaue we had our fantasy football draft. Got a nice surprise when the inlaws said they'd give us $200 to put toward the rehearsal dinner, which is awesome, becaues I had put $500 in the budget for the dinner... but in reality it probably will be over $700, so this is a big help. Both FILs and my parents are giving us cash wedding gifts instead of actually giving more to the wedding. I don't mind that since we got a bonus from FH's work, so we can pay for the wedding fairly comfortably, and then we'll have a good cash reserve for the honeymoon and/or beyond!

Two out of the three hotels we had blocks at expired today and I found out only two groups had reserved so far. We have another week and a half on the third, so I sure hope they get their reservations made and the 17 rooms left are enough... I know people will have a hard time getting hotel rooms if they don't get one in the block, but I guess I can't really do anything about it...

I think thats it for today. One month from tomorrow this will all be over! Woohoo!

Wow, good luck. I don't think we could have done this with real flowers. We've had to keep going back to the store to get more stuff to finish them! I'm so excited too to keep my bouquet. Thanks for the complement! And good luck with your flowers and your wedding!

Whew it's crunch time LOL.  All we have to do now is pay the day of payments, decorate the reception hall the night before, pick up dresses/tuxes, and meet the officiant on Tuesday.

It's comforting to see that while everyone was making fun of me for planning my "year from now" wedding so "early" now at just over a week to go I'm fairly calm, cool, and collected.  Well, not exactly - work is driving me nuts, I'm not sure how they will handle me being gone for two weeks.  And there are some RSVP issues with people now wanting to add more people.  I'm like, um hello no the caterer has the count already.  Duh...it's a week before the wedding LOL.  People can be so rude.  We've pulled the line of "It's our day." when someone said, oh it will really hurt so-and-so if they aren't there.  We had to make our point to them by saying "Oh, they have to come?  Well, ok...we're limited on space.  Tell you what - let's have the uninvited people just come, and then we'll make room by FH and I just not attending.  You all do the party without us and we'll go on to the honeymoon in Vegas and just get married as soon as we get there.  Is it that important?  If we didn't invite them, we don't want them there.  It's our day, not theirs.  Thanks."  LOL
