My fiance and I have decided that we would like to get married on an island (just the two of us). I need some ideas...I would like to stay away from the norm(sandals, breezes, couples) and find something that is trully unique. With that said we would like an all-inclusive and would like to do many activities while there...(jungles, rainforest, hiking, snorkeling, diving, etc) any advice????

The Big Island of Hawaii has everything you are looking for :)  It's got 11 of world's 13 climates so it is extremely diverse in terms of terrain and weather (you can snowboard and sunbathe in the same day!).  It has a TON of activities to choose from including a visit to the most active volcano in the world.

There is one all-inclusive resort in the Hawaiian islands chain and it is located on the Big Island...Kona Village Resort: http://www.konavillage.com/  The only thing not included in the price is alcoholic beverages but includes all meals (they will even pack you a lunch and/or give you meal vouchers if you decide to venture off property...which you def should).  Kona Village also has the best luau on the island on Friday nights...also considered the best luau of all the Hawaiian islands (we went TWICE last year on two separate visits because we loved it so much).

I would highly suggest taking a couple days in a B&B in the little town of Volcano on your trip...that area is at a higher elevation and in a rainforest so it gets chilly at night, really romantic in a room w/fireplace.  Plus, seeing the volcano flow at night is amazing.

There are other really amazing hotels on the Big Island too, if you decide to not go all-inclusive.  If you are looking to do many activities and not on hotel property that much then you'll probably get more bang for your buck staying at a regular hotel (I'm totally biased but LOVE the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows).

The next time you are at a bookstore, flip through the book Hawaii: The Big Island Revealed by Andrew Doughty.  The Revealed series is considered the unofficial guide book to the islands.  It has every activity available including vendor contacts plus hotel and restaurant reviews.  We've been to the Big Island many, many times and I still take my Revealed book everytime and always manage to find something new.

Good luck!!

Puerto Vallarta Mexico is also a wonderful choice.  They are in a jungle area, and there is a zipline through the jungle tour, ATV trips, snorkeling, sooooo much more)  Check out this site of adventures...http://www.vallarta-adventures.com/index.html            There is a private island called Las Caletas, that has amazing wedding performed there!!  Search the web for Las Caletas weddings, you will find fanastic photos.  Good luck!!

Yes I have tons of ideas... I think St. Lucia is a great option, You have the rain forrest, pitons, and all inclusive properties.. but not Sandals, etc.. properties like Anse Chastenet that was voted top resort in Conde Nast traveler.  Unique one of a kind that will make your honeymoon and wedding last a lifetime.  Costa Rica, tons to do and places like Tabacon and the Paradisius, these are all unique islands and so so much to do.  I personally think Hawaii is over rated and you can go there any time, go somewhere one of a kind that people only dream to go.

Cool Have a great day! and Congrats to you

we are doinig Belize as we want an island as well and found it so easy to get to and the planning has been easy as well.  English speaking country with rainforest, jungle, one of world's best diving and snorkeling, etc...found it very reasonable in price too.  Good luck!

We're getting married at Emerald Beach on St. Thomas USVI.  I've been working with Fantasia Weddings & Honeymoons.  Check out the site www.fantasiaweddings.com - they have several different locations - from helicopter ride to a private beach, ceremonies at private villas, other beaches and even an on-board wedding on a catamaran daydreamer.   Check it out - I've found the more options you have to choose from, the more confused and stressed I get!  Ha ha.

I know you posted this forever ago, but just in case anyone else is looking for a FANTASTIC all inclusive....try Cap Juluca in Anguilla.  It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to.

Our best friends were married there 5 years ago....it was fabulous!!!  We're all going back there again this August for their 5 year anniversary.

So, for anyone that is interested.

Hi there!

I would suggest the Cook Islands!  Such a beautiful place on this planet!  I was married there myself on the main island of Rarotonga.  The island is a New Zealand protectorate, uses the NZ dollar, so the exchange rate is good for us in the USA.  The beaches are fantastic, as is the snorkeling, there is a cross island trek that is a fantastic hike, alittle night life, everyone speaks fluent english and Air NZ flies there non stop from LAX.  Most people also visit the island of Aitutaki which has a lagoon that is second only to Bora Bora.  A very very romantic place.  The Cook Islands are a wonderful and unique place to get married and weddings are recognized here in the USA as legal.  Let me know if you want more info!  I know a fantastic wedding planner and photographer in Rarotonga.  Check out the official tourism board site for lots of info!  Here is their web address:

http://www.cook-islands.com/

Most of the accomodations are right on the beach, are bungalows with full kitchens, and most are family run.  There are a few resort properties as well.  I can suggest a couple of fantastic places to stay if you want really nice!

http://www.rumours-rarotonga.com/  This place is fantastic!  The beach is beautiful and you will never ever want to leave!  Also, the Sea Change or Reflections would be other five star small intimate places to stay and to have your ceremony.  In Aitutaki the Etu Moana or the Pacific Resort are the high end places.  There are many many many less expensive places to stay as well if you are on a budget too.  Congratulations to you!

Sunny regards,

Lisa
