I do believe (someone can correct me if I am wrong) but the bus Deuce
only goes on the if you stay off of have to relay
on taxi or rent a car which would also suck since parking is difficult.
Depending on how long you stay and how much coming and going you plan
to might be worth staying on the strip and walking...opposed to
off the strip and taxi.

We wanted to go check out the Hard Rock which is a bit off The Strip(which if you've been to one, you've been to them all - the hotel and casino weren't anything special, just more of an extension of the restaurant, which was near identical to the one we have in Chicago). We road The Deuce from Downtown to the Stratosphere and then hopped on of the local transit buses. I don't remember if they took our Deuce pass or not, but it was pretty cheap if they didn't and it dropped us off just blocks from our hotel in Downtown when we were done.

I didn't know about the jail thing - we didn't have any problems on Fremont though, even later at night there was always people walking around there, checking out the casinos, and you could always spot a bike cop. Fremont Street was always well lit too and in the evenings there were tons of people checking out the light show, bands and performers playing at the band shell and other street performers too. Like I said, I felt safe, but that's me and it was very affordable for us.
