Groomsmen gift ideas

Mar 4, 2009 5:58 AM

Hey all, I was wondering lately what to to about groomsmen gifts. My man isn't going to come up with anything, so I was trying to get a jump-start on it. I've been looking at different sites, and all I've really seen is money clips, flasks, and pocket knives. I'm on a real tight budget, so I want to do it for $30 or under per gift, and I would like it to be useful...or at least sensible. I don't know anyone who uses a flask at our age (21-23)...or really anyone at all for that matter. Thanks for anything you can come up with!

Dear Fallon,

The iPod Shuffle is $49, and totally cool. If you order from Apple, they will laser engrave the back at no charge.

We bought nice beer glasses and engraved their names on them. I don't remember the total cost, but I'm willing to bet it was well under $30 each.

Flasks are just asking for trouble, IMO. It's like saying, 'Here guys...we bought you a great wedding-themed portable booze container. Feel free to fill it up, carry it around in your pocket all day tomorrow, and be drunk before our ceremony starts.' At least, that's happened at several weddings that I've seen...

Also, feel free to expand your search from 'groomsmen gifts' to 'something that these particular guys will like and use.' If you search 'groomsmen gifts,' all you're going to get is flasks and money clips. Think less 'wedding' and more 'what do they like'. Perhaps the guys are all big baseball fans. Your FH could get them all a baseball card signed by their favorite player (or something) and then write a 'thanks for being in my wedding' note. The gift doesn't necessarily need to be wedding-themed.

We were going to do something cool like that, but we didn't end up having the time, so we went with more 'boring' gifts: the glasses for the guys and jewelry for the girls. Even though it wasn't more personal, everybody liked their gift, so don't overthink it! Most people are just happy to be in the wedding, and they don't care what (or IF) you get them a gift.

iPods are a great idea, and if you buy them from Apple, check out the REFURBISHED section.

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipod

today, for example, they have a 1 GP silver iPod shuffle for $29. The inventory changes, but the shipping is free so you might want to check it frequently and just buy what's available as you can.

I got FH a refurbished iPOD 3rd Generation Nano for Vday (actually, he got my blue one and I got the refurbished pink and we swapped out....pink was not available when my dad bought my Nano for me for Christmas. I guarantee he'd have bought me a pink if it had been, esp since he upgraded my request <I asked for 4 GB. He bought me 8 GB...good thing too...lol>)

But before you buy them a shuffle, find out from your FH if they already have an iPOD. I have a Nano, and would not go to a Shuffle. But if I didn't have an iPOD at all, I'd be happy with a Shuffle.

FH didn't think on anything, so I found this beer glasses online. I think on theknot.com. If I'm not wrong it was $6 per class and I think $6 for engraved the names. Our groomsmen like beer, I think they are going to be happy with the glasses, lol. For the bridesmaids, I have a friend that make jewelry. I send her the dress they pick, and she's making different sets to match the dress in our wedding color.

Can't wait to be Mrs. Snyder

Thanks! Those are all really great ideas! (I would reply to all, but since it shows up on the page anyway) I forgot to mention that we don't drink alcohol, and we are going to have an alcohol-free wedding. They might think it was strange if we gave them beer glasses, but that really is an awesome idea. I think we'll have to kinda dig for ideas from the guys themselves, something they need/ want. I'm just worried they won't tell us, because they won't want us to get them anything. Edited by: fallonkira on Mar 5, 2009 2:21 AM

What about tickets to a sporting event? Football, baseball, boxing, a concert thats going on around that time they may want to see? Is there a certain sports team they all like? What about grilling, they have some nice grill sets? Nice engraved pen sets? Personalized travel or gym bags? Nice cufflinks? Personalized blankets? Personalized golf towels? Personalized CD holders? What are their hobbies? Any of them military? I really like the iPod idea, just make sure they don't already have one.

We kind of personalized gifts....DH's best man is into poker, so we got him a really nice poker set in a cherry wood box and had that engraved. GM1 is a drinker, so flask. GM2 is an officier in the Air Force, so I think it was some kind of Military something or other. GM3 works away from home during the week, so we got him a silver plated travel shave kit, engraved. And GM4 I think got an embroidered fleece blanket.
I made "goody bags" for the young attendants. You can buy cute kids cups with "Ring Bearer" and the kids name engraved and throw in some age appropriate toys.

My fiance had a couple of ideas:
a fishing charter
a sporting event
private paintball session
bag of misc. stuff
As a groomsman, one groom took them fishing on a charter, and one made them coolers filled with beer.

Do the guys like to play card games like poker, drinking games, etc? If so you could put together some personalized playing cards http://www.wedding-supplies.com custom beer mug, and/or add on with a printed shot glass. I also liked the lottery ticket idea. U could stick those in with the glassware. Guys are so easy to please when it comes to anything drinking or game related. Ya know? :-) Good luck with whatever you decide on.
