Flower girl dress

I don't know if i need to put my flower girl in a dress like mine, a white dress, or maybe a color dress. She will be three at the time of our wedding. Not sure what to do. Do i talk to her mom? What is the norm?

The biggest thing is she should be in a dress that's appropriate for her age - ie no spaghetti straps, no heels, etc.

I had my flowergirls in white, but NOT in miniature wedding dresses and they had sashes that matched the BMs dresses (color wise).

To me, depending on the color of your BM's dresses, that color might not be best for a FG. But that's just me.

THe point is there is NO hard and fast rule.

Pharm is right. There are no set rules to how to dress your flower girl. Besides making sure her attire is age appropriate, style and color are completely up to you. I dressed my flower girls in cute simple dresses that were apple green to accent the pink and platinum color scheme I had going.

If you are buying the dress for your flower girl, then pick a style and color that you think will go well with the rest of your wedding party and just make sure mom approves of the style. If mom is buying the dress for her little one, then definitely talk with her about style and her budget for the dress as those mini wedding dresses, although uber cute, can run quite expensive.

Here are some great websites to help you get started on your search (if you haven't already!):

Good Luck!

Dear JS,

The flower girl need not match the wedding party. Any pretty party dress appropriate to her age would be OK. The formality of the party dress should be in line, more or less, with the formality of the rest of the wedding party.

Be sure the dress is actually comfortable. You don't want a flower girl squirming and itching because of scratchy tulle. I was at a wedding, once, where the flower girl reached up inside her dress (in front of the whole crowd) to scratch an itchy waistline. That somewhat detracted from the sacred moment of the couple's vows.

Get her some pretty maryjane shoes and short white socks with lace or a little flower appliqué. The flower girl, typically, carries a little basket of flowers.

If wanting to theme the dress as closely as possible to how your dress looks, don't worry that it may be too alike - the size of the girl wearing it is the obvious difference. If not minding a slight difference, then the best way to go about it would be to have the dress in a slightly darker or lighter shade of color than your gown, or that of the bridesmaids dresses. A flower girl dress should not only be pretty, but be comfortable too. Be careful of choosing a dress that is too long, or has any rough material or trimmings that may irritate a child. I think it is really nice for the flower girl to be dressed in something nice and unique from the theme of your wedding. Unless of course it is a strict theme. If its loose though, a colorful age appropriate dress would look great!

In my opinion let her more cute will be better.
if you wedding style is too sexty then you can find the fit style for her.
About the color it should match your theme.. talk to her mom would be a good idea and she'll help you a lot.

You can do anything you like but the most common dress for a flower girl is a miniature version of the brides dress. However my sister in law insisted on being the only one in white (I don't blame her) so the little flower girls wore a mini bridesmaid dress. It was gorgeous and so cute. (Yes I agree with PharmToxGirl the dress must be age appropriate. That is extremely important.

in my opinion, flower girls are the youngest angels at your big day, white color would be the best choice... You know, the pure simple beauty could be more fasinating... My friend finished her wedding last month, who ordered her bridesmaid dresses and flower girl dresses at http://www.dressdo.com , just have a look.

It is necessary that the color of flower girl dress matches up with the color of bridal dress. Best regards for you :)

Agree with PharmToxGirl, you should have the flower girl the dress which is same in color but not in design as spaghetti straps, heels etc.
