Wondering how much to tip? It's a served meal with 4 wait staff and some other kitchen staff, not sure how many.
Adding up the cost of food only, (not staff costs)before taxes is $2210. So that makes it a $300 tip at 15%. This seems a little high - or is it??
Most catering companies include the tip in their invoice. It will be marked as either "gratuity" or "service charge." If it is included in their bill, you do not need to provide an additional tip unless someone provides exemplary service. When that happens, such as cleaning up a spill or another issue, give the tip directly to the person/persons who helped you.
If the caterer did not include the tip in their invoice, then 18% is the generally accepted tip. Three percent of that goes to the catering captain and the balance is split among the servers.
