Nuva Ring. . . .?

I was supposed to get the mirena implant but my insurance has a high deductable and I was going to have to pay $900 for it. all oral birth control has made me sick so my doctor reccomended the nuva ring. I am kind of sceptacle because I have heard not great things about it in the past. If anyone has had an experience with the nuva ring, good or bad I would like to hear about it =)

It's still a hormonal birth control, so you'll probably still feel symptoms.

I tried the ortho evra patch and it didn't make me sick, I just had a hard time making it stick to my skin for a long period of time. My doctor said that if the patch didn't make me sick she didn't think the nuva ring would make me sick

I know I had at least one friend who loved it. She had no issues putting it in and removing it - but that seemed to be the weirdest thing to me personally (not that I tried it).

After I have my baby, I'm more likely to go with Mirena as I can't do anything with estrogen if I'm breast feeding. But I understand the cost associated with it being a huge deterrent for you.

I have been on the Nuva Ring for probably about 2 years now. I love it!!! I was on several different pills for 2 years and had nothing but problems. I would get my period for like 2 weeks in a row. So my doctor tried me on the Nuva Ring. I don't have any problems. I take it out on a Sunday and I get my period on Wednesday. It's over by the following Sunday. Every once in a while it's a day or two late (which is scary), but that doesn't happen very often. My period is normally not very heavy either. And I don't really get cramps either.

Not saying that it will be the same for you. But I think it's worth a shot. My doctor told me that since the Nuva Ring is inserted directly into the vagina it doesn't have to be as strong as the pill since that has to go through your system.

I have been on the Nuvaring for over 3 years and LOVE it. I chose it because I did not want to remember the pill every day, and wanted a low dose of hormones. I have never taken another type, but will not switch I am so satisfied. It is a bit pricey...that is the only downfall, but if your insurance doesn't have it low enough, Planned Parenthood is a good option I have used, they are no more than $25, when I was paying $45 or more through my insurance. I have known many friends who have had terrible side effects getting used to the pill. I am happy with my choice!
