Question about dresses
Posted: Aug 25, 2010 3:55 PM

While I was searching online on how to save money on a wedding dress, I found one suggestion saying to wear a white bridesmaids dress or even a white prom dress. I do have a white prom dress that still fits me and its floor length. What do you all think about this suggestion? Is it okay to wear a non-wedding dress as your wedding dress? The dress I have I got back in 2005 and its a Jessica McClintock.

Dear MainSt,

" Is it okay to wear a non-wedding dress as your wedding dress?"

Sure. I did. My dress was designed to be a debutante dress.

In fact, I'd almost pay money to see a bride in something other than the "standard" strapless ball gown one sees everywhere these days.

Go for it.

My opinion about weddings has always been "you're paying for it; do what you want!"

I think if you have a white dress you want to wear again - that is fantastic! You are likely saving yourself thousands of dollars AND you know it fits already. No shopping and no fuss! And you can focus your monies and energies on other parts of the wedding.

Dear MainSt,

I bought my at a second hand resale store. Mine was a 'sample' dress and nothing wrong with it $250. I say check out the resale stores as well Great stuff and sometimes you will get very lucky!

You should wear something that feels beautiful to you. Whether it is officially classified as a wedding dress or not is unimportant.
