Do I HAVE to?

I am just wondering if a program is a necessity? We're having a short ceremony, performed by my FH's best friend, and we'll have a small WP. Our guest list tops out at 80, and most people know the WP. Even if they don't know everyone well, would it be ok if we skipped the program? We're not doing any special readings or Unity Candle or anything like that.

I would think it would be okay, but AOTB is the etiquette expert. I also had a small wedding, no reading, outside, and did not have a program.

A program is absolutely not a requirement. I find them a big waste.

All you "have to" have for a wedding is:

a. a partner
b. a marriage license
c. an officiant
d. witnesses

And depending on your state, even some of those may not be necessary.

We had programs, because we were having a Jewish ceremony with several nonJewish guests. Our programs included the entire text of the ceremony, with translations and transliterations of the Hebrew, along with a description of the Jewish traditions.

However, if you are not in that situation, programs are absolutely not necessary.

Thank you! I figured as much, but just wanted to make sure.

I would say no also. I'm having a small ceremony as well and we're not going to do programs.

I just can't justify spending money on something that most will throw away or not even notice. I was in my cousins wedding the other week, and all I saw on tables that night were programs that people had left crumpled up, and the kids were making paper airplanes out of them!
