Brides Biggest Loser Competition

Hey Ladies!!

Several of the ladies over on the Overweight but Inspired Board have been having a Biggest Loser style competition, and have hit a road block. It has been all the same ladies, and no new competition. We have noticed a thread of brides wanting a competition, and I have been slightly following the Belly Buster Challenge, but we have decided to dedicate a thread to our competition.


This competition is for everyone on here who is serious about loosing weight, maintaining their weight, or just getting in better shape, and a healthier lifestyle.


We would like to see this start on April 26 (so next Monday), and last 4 weeks.


Depending on how many people would like to join, we will probably break into teams of 2 or so. We need complete dedication, and for everyone to fully commit to the competition.


Please let me know if you are interested in this competition, and your starting weight, goal weight at the end of the 4 weeks, and 3 goals you would like to accomplish while in the competition. Also a little about you and why you need this motivation now, and how you got into the position you are in now.


We will have weekly weigh ins, probably on either every Sunday, or Monday. I will post more rules, and what the whole thing will entail by this weekend, after we see how many people are really willing to participate.


So for me..

Starting weight... 223.5

Goal Weight..... 215.5 (2 lbs per week)

Three Goals..... 1) Maintain my water consumption

2) Overcome my afternoon blahs, and take a good walk

3) Feel better about my body and energy before my anniversary.

I have always been heavy, but not this heavy. I got married a year ago next month, and even while planning the wedding, I never got motivated enough to loose the weight for the wedding. DH and I are now planning on starting a family, and I would like to be healthy before trying to carry a baby for 9 months. I have gotten into this situation through some hard situations as a teenager, miserable relationships, and very low self esteem.


I look forward to seeing this competition take off, and getting to know more of you lovely women!!!

I've always been a little on the heavy side, but didn't really start gaining weight until I went to University. I was up to my heaviest (235) in 2004 and for the United Way Campaign at work that year they decided to hold a weight loss competition. Something in me just clicked - I joined, and really haven't looked back. I ended up losing 50 pounds on my own and quite frankly was happy with how I looked. I didn't try losing weight for my wedding because to tell you the truth, my dress fit perfectly and I didn't want to spend the money to get it altered lol!
About a year and a half ago they had a great special for us to join Weight Watchers through work, so I figured what the heck. I lost another 28 pounds, reached my "goal", did maintenance, became a lifetime member and now 8 months later, have gained back about 15 pounds. I know what to do, I just don't feel like doing it. I didn't gain all that much until starting about 4-5 months ago. There's been a lot of stuff going on, and diet always seems to take a back seat to all the other problems.
My motivation right now is that I'm tired of being "fat" - even though I am still about 15 pounds lighter than when I was happy with how I looked - go figure. Anyway, enough of my blabbering.....


Here are my starting stats:

Starting weight:163.5
End goal weight:160.0 or under

3 Goals:

Start drinking water again - the last little while I have been seriously slacking in the water department. Most days I do not drink any liquids but my morning coffee.

Get off my butt and start walking again with DH which is going to be really hard during hockey playoffs. :)

Start tracking my points more closely (I am on Weight Watchers) as I've not been really tracking or I guestimate (knowing I'm probably underguestimating)

Greetings!

I'm someone that if I'm not watching my weight, I'm gaining weight. I can't just let it go, and my adoption of a healthy lifestyle never seems to be perfect. I'm averaging around 155 right now, 10lbs heavier than this time last year. I'm not so much obsessed with the number -- I'm just tired of feeling my clothes being too tight.

My goals:

1) More water. I'm waking up dehydrated all the time, plus I'm back to popping ibuprofen like it's M&Ms, a sure sign I need more water.

2) Cut the sugar. I'm emotional eating right now, with cookies as snacks and ice cream for desert every single day. I know better.

3) Train for my 10 mile run this fall. Had to quit an earlier run because of inadequate training. Don't want to do it again.

Alright, ladies, who's next?

I'm in.

I have never been really overweight--but I'm always on the brink of being close. Definitely one of the 'thicker' girls in my group of friends. My darling boyfriend and I decided to lose weight together---he was very overweight and I wasn't feeling too hot. Anyways, this year he has lost 30 lbs (go him!) and I have lost...nothing. I did lose weight for a while but now exams have crept back into my life and I have pretty much created a cave in my living room where I sit wrapped in a blanket surrounded by books, my laptop and munchies. On Tuesday I didn't move from 10am-11pm...not even to go to the bathroom. My housemate made me lunch and dinner and brought it to me. Wow. And my other housemate came home with 2 bags of chips and french onion dip--snack while watching hockey playoffs. So I am all for getting a healthy lifestyle back--but it's not like exam season is over yet--but I need to create some sort of balance.

Start weight: 150 lbs
Goal weight: 145 lbs

When I was working on losing weight, I lost 5 lbs--and then I gained it back. So I would like to get back there again.

Missions (or whatever you called it)

1. Drink 8 glasses of water a day. I get dehydrated super quickly and I tend to go for the diet pepsi.
2. Stop the snacking! That half bag of Sour Cream & Onion chips at 11am yesterday was so un-necessary! 3 solid meals a day that are balanced. If I am hungry, I will eat--but this procrastinating eating or bored eating is soooo bad for me right now.
3. At least go for a walk everyday. No more of this sedentary lifestyle. Today I walked to campus and I will wack back again this evening. It's not super far--but the 15 minutes there and 15 minutes back is definitely better than my 13 hour couch sitting. Boy, was it nice to be outside!

When I was in highschool and felt best about my body I was at 135 lbs--I did get down to 125 lbs in grade 12 but I wasn't very healthy. 135 lbs I was being healthy and I was feeling great about myself. I would love to get back to that number. I wear a size 30 jean and I would love to shave that off and get back to a 28 if possible. I think that will be a 'by the end of summer' goal. For now, I will take losing 5 lbs in a month.

Sounds good! Maybe I will even lose a pound by then ;)

I am studying on campus for the rest of the weekend--and since campus food is so expensive and since I am more focused while at the library--I only buy lunch and dinner (I eat breakfast at home before I go.)

And I bought a 1L stainless steel water bottle--so fill that twice a day and I am on track for my goals!

Yesteday--I ate 12 crackers with slabs of goat cheese on top for a late night snack--no more of that!

I'm glad that everything seems to be going great with you and your husband! I love seeing one of our "Friendly Forum for Young Brides" girls doing so well! Natasha seems to be doing great too! And I think KJ is supposed to be getting married this May was she not? And of course Rose's wedding is coming up as well. I remember her saying that she wanted to lose some weight at some point--maybe I will recruit her in here!

I'm in I need to be accountable to someone it helps keep me on track.

I wasn't overweight until I hit my 30's then the weight came on and stayed. Then I developed issues with my thyroid and I gained even more weight. At my heaviest I was 287 lbs which is a lot of weight to carry on my 5' 3" frame. I have no weight goal in mind. I will just continue to do what I am doing until my body decides it is at the weight it wants to be then I will maintain that.

Starting weight...219.4
End weight... 210

My goals for this challange

1. Maintain a healthy diet.
2. Get more outdoors exercise
3. Take an inch of my abs.

Everything is going great!! I am glad to see you still around! I haven't seen Rose on here for a while, if you can find her that would be great!! KJ is supposed to be getting married in May, but she went MIA so I am hopeing that is still on. I haven't heard from Nat for a while, I know she had the babies, and thats last I heard.

Kenny's Glad you could come join us!!!

Sunday night I will post all the rules, and what not.

My question to everyone is, do you want to partner up, or do indivudals? Also do we want to incorparte challanges onto other competitors, or just work at meeting and exceeding our goals?

I'm thinking individuals. I know that having partners can be motivating--but I am not sure if I can be 100% committed during the summer as I will have not have constant access to the internet. I think I will definitely be able to make it on a few times a week--but I don't want to bring somebody down. If partners are decided, all I can say is that I will do my best to make it on!

I'm not quite sure how the Biggest Loser worked in the other thread--so I don't really have any input on whether 'challenges' would be a good idea. I don't think I even know exactly what you mean by 'challenges' but I'm pretty much open to anything!

Goal: 210
1.stay consistent with the gym
2.stick to my 1500 calories
3.drink more water

Welcome Juju!

Brighter, I will post how it all worked in the past either later today or tomorrow morning. But I will tell you real quick as well.

What we do is, everyone has 25 points they are working towards earning. You pick what you want to be worth how many points. So say my points menue is..

Stick to a meal plan every day 3 points

Stay under 1900 calories everyday 3 points

Do 10 Bicycles and push ups 5x a week 5 points

Drink at least 3 of my water bottles full of water every day 3 points

At least 15 mins on my treadmill everyday 5 points

Take the dog on a longer walk every day 5 points

Track all my food for the week 1 point.

When I weigh in, I will also post this and how many of the points I actually earned. So say I did stick to everything, except one day I didn't do my treadmill, I would get 24 points.

Also with challenges, we would either make it for a total of 30 points, so you get 5 extra points if you perform a challenge, or start with 20 points for a total of 25 with a challenge. A challenge would be....I want you, Brighter, to make sure to eat an extra serving of a fruit or veggie every day. If you do that, then you get the 5 extra points for it, if you don't well, you don't get the extra points.

A couple ways we could do challenges is,
A) if we are in partners, each partner can challenge the other to what ever they want to help motivate them
B) if we are in individuals, we can choose whoever we want to challenge.

Another idea I have been thinking about is, have everyone start with 25 points, and each time you don't do something on your points menue, you loose that point, so we all strive to be at 25 at the end of the week, and then for challenges, you can only give someone a challenge, if you have all of your points.

So lets say its time to weigh in, I post my weight, and my points, I was able to keep all my points that week, and I want to challenge Kenny's to spend an extra 15 minuets doing an outdoor activity. I can, but if I got 23 points, I would not be able to challenge anyone.

Alright, I have now spent more time on this than I should have this morning, I have a very busy day. Let me know what you all think of how to do the points, the challenges, and teams VS individual.

Also please have your starting stats to me by tomrrow evening so I can get everything ready.
