Finding a dress as a sample
Posted: Oct 7, 2009 9:36 PM

I have a specific dress that I want, but am hoping to find it as a sample to make it affordable. What's the best way to find a specific dress as a sample sale? Is it tacky to call bridal shops and ask? The dress is from a Spring 2009 collection, is it too early to be on a sample sale? Thanks for the advice in advance!

i would just call the shops and ask if they have that dress in the shop and if you can come in and try it on. then, do just that. go in and try it on, and make sure that it either fits, or is large enough to be taken in. they cant really let out dresses too much, and dress makers usually ship all the samples in the same size. so, if that particular dress was manufactured to be samples in a size 6, and you need a size 10 for example, then its not going to work, and you cant buy the sample.

its not really too early to be looking. This is the time of year when dress shops head out to all the fashion shows and will order their new samples for 2010, and they will also get notification of the dresses that are going to be discontinued as well. My dress was going to be discontinued, and the sample fit me, so I bought the sample from the store and saved over 65% off the ticket price. I bought it the first week of January...so hopefully that helps you with your timeline.

However, if the dress is a really popular style, and they decide NOT to discontinue it, the dress shop may not want to sell you their sample. So, thats why I would go to the shop, try it on, and then ask the shop if you could just but the sample.

good luck.

I think the trunk shows may help. Or try to find it in partypop. I saw a lot of sample sales advertisements there.

What's the worst that could happen?? They could say no.
Many shops are willing to negotiate the price. Times are tough and they want to make sales.
