I am planning on having a cruise wedding in May 2011. I tried contacting a couple of past bride via private messages on Brides.com to gather some feedback about their experince having a cruise wedding, but I have yet to hear back (I don't think that I'm going to get a response). That's why I started this thread. Hopefully it will catch the eye on someone who is either doing the same thing, or has done the same thing and wouldn't mind sharing their experience.
Here's a little more info:
We are planning to sail , with Carnival Cruise line, out of Miami, Fl on a 5 day cruise to the Caribbean to include Jamaica and the Grand Cayman Islands. We would like to have a beach wedding on one of the Cayman Islands with about 50-60 guests and then a reception back on the boat.
Initially I wanted to do a cruise wedding but changed my mind after discussing the hors douerve options through Carnival for a reception. I wasn't comfortable with their options and I wouldn't be able to spend much time with my guests who aren't taking the cruise so I decided to have my wedding at a hotel on the island prior to embarkation.
I'm getting married in San Juan, and then taking a 7-day southern caribbean cruise.
My fiance and I initially considered doing a cruise wedding but decided against it because we felt that the cruise lines were quite particular in all the details. We wanted a bit more freedom in options. We have cruised many times but only on Carnival (which we love), and when looking for a wedding package, Carnival just seemed to restrictive. I believe (if I recall correctly) you have to wed prior to departing or while in port and it is only possible at some ports. The dream of an at-sea wedding isn't possible (again, if I remember correctly).
We also decided against it because we both wanted to ditch the fam/friends after the wedding which isn't really possible when you are all stuck on the same boat.
