Toast required?
Posted: Sep 20, 2009 12:08 PM

I was a toast at the wedding a requirement or something extra? I went to a wedding yesterday and there was no toast. I didn't even notice until way into the wedding and I wondered if that's one of those optional things. With my wedding 3 weeks away I was trying to work on my timeline and I figured it was a requirement to have at least the best man give a toast, right? I had asked about who gives toasts before, but all the American traditions are way different from what I am used to. Anyone know what is the by the book standard?

Nothing is "required." Some things are traditional, but many brides opt out of old traditions or they create new traditions of their own. Your best answer is in your own post--you didn't even notice! Most people don't notice (and if they do, they don't care) when a standard tradition is skipped or changed. So, do as you please. If you want a toast, have one. If not, don't.

Absolutely, totally optional.
