I got a phone call today telling me that our photographer was not going to be doing our pictures. 3 WEEKS BEFORE OUR WEDDING! And this person is a FAMILY member! She said Oh I just forgot to tell you before!! Are you effing kidding me!!

So i called Deitra Jackson and she came to save the day! She is going to do it! Lifesaver!!!!

As we grow older, as we continue to change with age, there is one thing that will never change about me, I will keep falling in love with you all over again every single day

My photographer lost our engagement pictures and I wasn't as calm as you are now! LOL
I'm glad you found a replacement photographer! Pictures are, in my opinion, one of the most important parts of a wedding because they help you remember that day for years to come. Oh, and I made the photographer promise me to triple backup THESE pictures, lol! (He's someone who the family knows and one of the very few photographers our priest allows to photograph weddings. The priest is picky about where the photographers stand during a Greek Orthodox wedding due to guidelines of the church, and since the photographer is the Parish Council president, he has pull to stand in places where he gets good angles, woohoo!)

Are you guys doing traditional pics or more photojournalistic "moment in time" type shots? Congrats! You guys are a day before us...down to the wire, huh? Ahhhhh!

Did you have a written contract with this family member? Gosh I would be SO INFURIATED if this was me...not to mention crying and freaking out. It seems like everything is going to work out just fine for you so that is good...but geesh, I would still be mad at this family member. That is just rude.

Argh, what a nightmare! I'm glad you found a replacement, though!

I think we talked about this before, but Deitra did our photos back when she was building up her portfolio. You'll be happy with her - she's a sweetheart and easy to work with, and even though she does things a little differently than I originally wanted, we were very happy with her.

Art, She has been a huge blessing. i just went over the details with her this morning about what I want versus what most people want... I DO NOT want staged pictures... I will of course be obligated to take some because of his mother but for the most part I am not going to do that many. The pictures I want are the ones that are like candid moments. Things that go unnoticed sometimes. She and i talked in depth about this because my pictures are the one thing I want the most. that and for some reason my bouquet I have no idea what my obsession with this is....

I did have a contract with the family member... Too bad... She did our e-pics. I love her to death and I totally understand her hand situation but some notice would have been nice.

About the not freaking out... I made a vow to myself this past weekend that from that point out I would not let it get to me. As long as me and Brandon are at the alter saying I do on October 10th and it is legally binding... I don't care what else goes wrong. ok So I do care but I won't let it stress me out my stress was awful last week

I went on weekend trip to visit my friend who lost her baby and she was doing great. The drive was absolutely breath taking because the leaves in the mountains were starting to turn orange and yellow and the air was nice and chilly and brisk. the sun was out the entire time and it was just very relaxing and everything I needed. I went out Saturday night with my other bridesmaid and another friend and just relaxed. Its amazing what such a small trip can do for you...

But anyways back to the photographer... ARTBRIDE I have seen your wedding photos and they are beautiful. She does some awesome work... Plus the fact that she is helping us out soooo much... i can't even begin to describe how happy it makes me...

I am so glad to that you found a replacement! As a photographer myself, I can completely understand how important your wedding pictures are.
My honest suggestion to all those who are seeking their photographer, or who has a photographer, to please make sure you have a contract. Even if its just a family friend or relative. Also I would recommend that even your professional photographer has a contract that states that in case of an emergency a replacement will be found in their place!

If anyone ever needs a contract for their wedding photographer feel free to contact me :)

Best of luck

While it would be wonderful to have a contract with your friend or family member who wants to photograph your wedding, this creates quite the problem. For now you have to tell your photographer that you want a contract to be signed. "What you don't trust me?!" Unfortunately at the time when you most need a contract, you are insulting the person with whom you wish to enter into a contract. In addition, without going into a lot of contract law, one of the requirements for a valid contract is that consideration is paid from one party to the other. If the friend or family member is photographing your wedding for free, there is no consideration given and hence you may not have a valid contract. So now you see the one of the myriad of problems you can encounter when you use a friend or relative as your wedding photographer.

Sure it can save you money but at what cost later on? Please don't get me wrong, I fully understand that for some people, using a free photographer is the only way they can afford to have a photographer at their wedding. They just have to be prepared for a problem such as the one experienced by the OP.

My aunt is a professional photographer. That's the problem. We were treated like regular clients. We signed the contract is the same one she uses for other brides and grooms. Everything was technically "legally binding." She just bailed out. So yes we were screwed and sicne she was family we didn't say "Uhhh but you have a contract with us to provide services." Does that mean that we were happy about it? No. Not at all... But it is what it is. It was a lesson learned. We learned that things happen. In our situation a lot of things happened and went wrong.

I think it is important that a couple has a contract with their vendors. Sometimes those contracts work in the opposite favor but still. Would I change anything about the way it worked with my aunt? Yes absolutely. I would have had a back up plan.
