I need motivation and help
Posted: May 11, 2009 12:59 AM

Alright Ladies. I need some help. I am currently as this morning 258 lbs. Josh and I are getting married in 1 and 1/2 years.

I would like to lose some weight. I don't really have a specific goal of weight loss, at the moment, i just want to be at a healthy weight which i believe is 150 lbs, for someone that is 5'7,some time in the future.

I did join a gym, but cancelled because i couldn't afford it. I have workout dvd's such as 4 of Leslie Sansone's walk and jogs which i love, jillian michaels 30 day shred which is very hard for me to finish, which i haven't been able to, and i have a biggest loser dvd that i've done once. My workout's are really spuratic. Like last week i worked out once, and i could of workout out more i was just not motivated, and basically to Lazy to do it.

I walk to and from work everyday which is about 45 minutes total of walking, 15 minutes there and 30 minutes back to home, I am a cashier at Walgreen's so i'm on my feet all the time....

I really don't want to count calories. I think it's really time consuming...I don't want to do it, but it seem's that, for now that's the way to do it...

What do you guys do? How do you stay motivated, eat healthy and workout?

Sorry about the craziness of this post...

hi there!
yes, getting motivated is the hard part. If i am having a hard day, I tell myself I will go to to they gym for 15 minutes of cardio. once i get there, i usually can squeak out at least 30 minutes, if not more. Once you start to workout, its easier to continue.

Try self.com..they have a Self Challange you can do. 3 months worth of exercises and meal plans to follow where you can shed up to 2 pounds a week. I would start with looking on their website. they tell you what to eat, that fits into your calorie intake, so you dont have to think about anything.

actually schedule time for your workouts each day. Actually write it in your planner or calendar as an appiontment. that way, you feel like you HAVE to do it, and you will. If you cant make it thru a whole dvd, thats ok. After a little while, you will. Dont let it discourage you. Do as much as you can. If you need a break half way thru, just march in place...DONT STOP! Rest for a minute or two, then resume the workout. Continue to do this, and soon enough you will be able to do the dvd with no problem.

If you really want to go to a gym, rather than working out at home, check out planet fitness. They have plans that are only $10 per month!!

Take it a little at a time. I also have 18 months until my wedding, and am trying to loose weight and tone up too. Once you start to workout, and you start to see the pounds melt and the muscles form, that is all the motivation you need! :)

I think being inspired is the key to start a healthy lifestyle. And through inspiration, being commited to force yourself to get to the gym and see positive results in a short period of time, I think you'll be addicted to having a healthy balanced workout and eating lifestyle. In college, I used to be overweight and ate extremely unhealthy. One day I bought the book body 4 life and got all of their inspirational dvd's. Watching people change their bodies, eating, and work out habits in 3 months was inspirational to me. The next day, I changed what I ate, and did a simple daily work out routine. Within 3 weeks, I saw immediate results which helped me want to continue going.

I think before this process, I would work out for two days stop for two days, eat healthy for one day and stop and work out for one day because I felt bad for eating unhealthy the day before. Being so sporadic gave me no real results and eventually I stopped caring altogether. But after going through the body for life program and seeing where I started from to where I am now, I think its about inspired enough to stay commited until you see results for you to become extremely commited to change life long unhealthy habits.

Anyway, that's my two cents.. I hope it helps. I used to be a size 10 at 5'4", now I'm a size 2. goodluck to you!!!

Hey Chelsea!

I really know how hard it is to loose weight when you already are gaining weight. It is difficult to discipline yourself with a diet and exercise that you are not used to. But what is the reason why you wanted to loose weight? As you mentioned, your marriage will be in 1.5 years starting now and that would be just enough time for you reach the goal of 150 lbs before your big day!

You know what, getting healthy should motivate you enough because it is dangerous now adays to pamper unwated fats. Your daily walking exercise is a good start, continue this habit. Then you have to control your eating. Follow an "Eat Less More Often Diet". This is eating less 5 times a day (breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, before 6 dinner). The purpose of this is to make your stomach get used to eating less therefore it can digest the food easily and transfer it to your different body systems so that you have the energy to function daily.

I am following this habit and so far my tummy is not gaining unwanted curves. Just the normal not so model-like curves.

I am also trying to lose wait before my oct. 2010 wedding. I am currently about 190 and that is the biggest I have ever been ( I swear being in a relationship has made me happy fat) I am hoping to get down to about 120 by the wedding. About 2 weeks ago I started a sort of diet... mostly just eating lean protein and vegetables. I have been cheating on the weekends though and i think I need to stop that if I'm actually going to lose the amount I want. Another great resource I've found is the hungry girl website. She has great recipe alternative's to high calorie foods that taste just as good and have waay less calories and fat. My fh and I are also trying to get a walking routine going in the mornings but it's been really hard dragging our butt's out of bed early enough haha. If anyone has any tips or suggestions that would be great :)

Try shape.com. You can sign up free and then put yourself through the virtual trainer program. It will give you a diet plan and then you can also go through and select which parts of your body you want to work out and how much time you have to do it. They then give you a well rounded workout based on the areas that you selected to fit in that time frame.

Also, you might check into AdvoCare's Trim line. They created Slim which works well by itself ($40 for 2 weeks worth of products) but can also be paired with the MNS Max system (altogether it's called the SlimPACT Bundle) which will definitely help boost your progress. You can find it at www.advocare.com/09052479

Getting the motivation to get up and work out is hard. And keeping to a good meal plan is just as hard, maybe even harder. I could probably lose the 15 lbs I've got to lose like that if I would simply stick to eating no sugar and drinking no soft drinks, but I cave in all the time. sigh My problem is that there's really no one to keep me accountable. Maybe you need to find a friend who will call you every day to make sure you're working out and eating right? I do well when there's someone else I have to answer to.

I have been following my diet pretty strictly for about a week and yesterday I weighed myself and.... I gained 2 pounds! WTF? I know you can flucuate between about 5 pounds, but I still thought I'd lost some weight... :( dang it. I am starting a new green tea regiment with lunch and breakfast, it's these packets that contain all the nutrients from green tea, acai berries, and noni juice. My Dad bought it at the mall for him and my step sister but he decided it made him too jittery (probably cause he drinks alot of coffee too) so he gave it to me to try. My stepsister has lost 15 pounds in just 2 weeks by adding it to her diet, so I figure since it's free it's worth a shot. I will let you know how it goes.

I don't remember what i was doing before but i had lost 6 lbs, and it felt awesome, but i can't remember what i was doing. I don't think i was counting calories, I think i was just working out everyday...lol. I don't have a gym so i do workout Dvd's. At the moment i'm doing turbo jam. But i love to do Leslie Sansone's Dvd's, She is fun and it really is a workout.

I think the calorie counting has gotten me all messed up. I'm obsessing over what i'm eating, and it's really annoying.lol. Before all i did was workout and not really care about how many calories i was eating. I'm not one to eat too unhealthy. I drink water constantly, and I haven't drank Soda in Sooooo long, and that got me frustrated because people have said well i cut out my soda consumption and only drink water and i've lost sooo much weight. I haven't.lol.

But anyways i'm going to eat breakfast and workout

Hi Sam,

I saw your post and I thought that maybe I could help! :) Losing weight no matter how you cut it sucks! Regardless these are a few things that #1 keep me motivated and #2 really work. For starters one big key is to keep your schedule (super important!), i.e. a certain time of the day, days of the week. This way you can have no excuses for not doing your workout. Also, another big one for me is don't give yourself the "option" to workout...ITS A MUST!!! (kinda like going to work.) Next is to vary your routine of a work out, my suggestion that in the past has worked for me is to change it up every 2-3wks or when you feel that its not doing much for your body (or you can do the workout more easily than before). I say this because I know that by varying your routine will boost your metabolism, which helps to burn calories!!! One more tip for boosting your metabolism is do shorter workouts more frequently, like one in the morning and one at night. And like most common sense eat healthy, don't starve yourself or limit your eating. All that does is hurt your weight loss, seriously.

Overall main key points
1. establish a routine and stick with it...treat it like a job!
2. variety is key and having a strong workout everytime!
3.eat healthy!

I really hope this helps. I love to try and help people in the aspect mostly cuz I am a health freak and I want people to see how amazing it is to be healthy and happy.

P.S. working out is good for you it release endorphins that give you more energy and make you happy!!! :)

Hey Sam another thing that i do, is keep a calander with what i'm going to do with my workout, Since i workout at home i write down the dvd i'm going to do. Something reusable is buying a white board that has a calander on it that way you can wipe it off and restart, or change it up....
