Popular Favors

Hey Ladies,

I was always a bridesmaid... but now I'm the bride. I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly in party favors. I want to know what were the best party favors you have received. Maybe your best will inspire me to create something wonderfull.

Some of the best I have seen are Candy buffets, caramel apples, candles, and hot chocolate packets...

The worst I have seen are bubbles sorry for anyone using bubbles I happen to hate them and any of those other senseless things that really only kids like...

As we grow older, as we continue to change with age, there is one thing that will never change about me, I will keep falling in love with you all over again every single day

I really like the candy buffets. I have seen this done and it really adds a nice twist. Most of your guest would never expect favor in the form of a delicious assorted candy buffet.

I am a big fan of things people can use after the wedding. Candle and small picture frames are nice, but a lot of people have tons of those. One girl I knew gave out ice cream scoopers as a favor. I know people like mine - I gave out a pasta server.

Here are a few suggestions people might like

I think the best ones are food....although I usually eat it during the reception! One couple did a CD of their wedding music, which was a sweet idea...but it just took up space until I threw it out.

I enjoy edible favors as well. I know sometimes after a wedding, I am starving from drinking so I've been known to chow down on the M&M's or whatever they gave out. I feel like candles or knick knacks just collect dust. When I was planning my wedding I wanted to do the least work on the favors b/c if anyone is like me, they will just chuck them. So i gave out candy corn & fall hershey assorted candies in little candy bags and tied them w/ orange and brown ribbons and attached a fake leave. Voila. Took about an hour for me and my mom to make them.

Maybe you can tie the placecards into the favors. Another thing I did was picked a bunch of mini pumpkin gourds and put the placecards on them...the guests got to bring them home. Which was a nice decoration for them to keep up for fall.

definitely edible ones, then if you have any left over you won't be too upset. hehe

i'm going to go with the group and say food is always a winner. the problem with decor items like candles and photo frames is that most people design their homes a certain way and trinkets that don't go with the decor often simply go in the trash -- talk about a waste of money. my personal least fav favors are definitely the ones with the bride and grooms name and/or wedding date emblazoned front and center. i probably wouldn't exhibit anything in my house with anyone else's personal info on it -- just not me.

I would like to suggest refrigerator magnets or glass coasters. They are useful and people will take home and use it for sure. I had received both magnets and coasters from friends' wedding and I'm still using the coasters as well as the magnets :) HTH

refrigerator magnets - very cute, isn't it?

I'm all for edible favors.

My favorites would be caramel apple, cocoa, or candy buffet (although I'm a lot less likely to make myself a bag of candy to take home if I have to do it myself, but kids would be super into it).

As for coasters, I probably wouldn't end up using those, especially if they were wedding related.

Magnets however, if those were wedding related, I would probably use. Hearts or something would probably be okay, but who was wedding bells/cake/rings/etc on their fridge year round.

If it is Christmas time I also like ornaments that are NOT personalized with the bride/groom info on it. Decorative ornaments, a nice snowflake or something. But your wedding isn't in winter... so that doesn't help you.

If you had a destination wedding I think it would be cute to give out like sand shovels/buckets.

Cookie cutters are great too, but that may just be because I love to bake.

I HATE:
little trinket type stuff (its pointless and just gets tossed)
tiny candles
small picture frames - how many tiny pictures do you have lying around and who really wants to display this little bitty frame somewhere
anything personalized with wedding info
Bubbles as a favor. They are not for me, they are simply to make your exit pictures look pretty, so therefore it wasn't a favor for me, but instead one for you.
Almonds/Mints: I'm a chocolate gal

I thought someone's idea of an ice cream scoop was really cute, especially if you had an sundae bar are your wedding, it would kind of tie it all in.

I received a heart shaped wine stopper at my last wedding. It has so far been the only wedding favor I've ever used. In fact, it was in a bottle of wine later that night :)

I'm afraid I'm against the group on the edible treats though... It seems a little childish to me (unless the treat is specific to the region, like Hershey bars in Hershey, PA, or maple flavored candies in VT). But clearly I'm in the minority on this one...

Just going to throw this out there....not sure if it is an option for you. I'm not doing favors. I think they are an unnecessary expense and hassle and waste of resources. I've never been to a wedding and looked forward to the favors or minded if they weren't there....I usually don't even take them unless I can eat it there.

But if you love the idea of favors, I think you've gotten some great advice!

In my area I've never seen actual favors that you take home. Every wedding here has some kind of candy on the tables at the reception that guests eat while sitting at the tables. I really look forward to a treat when you have to wait a long time for dinner to be served!

One of my favorites after browsing has been these champagne timers. They are elegant but also functional - a kitchen timer for the guest - you can get them at my wedding favors and I'm sure some other sites.
