This was ours. It's a English Pound Cake with Buttercream-Meringue icing... It was so good!

Because of how hot it was on our wedding day (literally over 90 degrees... St. Louis had a heat advisory), our cake had to be iced on site. This was the cake shortly before the top layer started to fall off:

Thankfully my stepmom who made the cake caught it before it fell enough to ruin it and shored it up with some icing.

The groom's cake (Star Fleet command emblem... or rather the mission patch for the Enterprise, as DH explains it) was originally supposed to be a more Star Fleet-esque color, but because the heat caused the icing of the cake to take twice as long as it should have taken, Judy just used some leftover icing from the trim and forwent trying to change the color.

It was a childhood fantasy conglomeration of a wedding, and the cake is Lord of the Rings-inspired. You can't see it so well in the picture, but the cake is covered in silver arches drawn to look like the arches in Lothlorien, and there are fallen mallorn leaves all over it that Judy and I made the night before. DH and I made the topper. The clay figures are of us in our wedding outfits styled a little after the Willow Tree figures, and the arch he made of Legos.

I know it's not totally fab and hip, but we DID have a large themed wedding for under $500, k?

Im thinking that we might go with something like this. We are going May 31st for a tasting and to see more options, but I really love this one.
And this is our cake topper, but I think we might put it in the second level instead of the top.

I loved our cake. The top layer was coconut with coconut cream. The middle layer was carrot cake with cream cheese filling. The bottom was double chocolate with choc cream filling. The outside was buttercream frosting, not fondant. The grooms cake was a tres leche cake designed after the TPC Sawgrass 17th hole.
