My fiance and I have already decided that we are having a small (close) family-only wedding, but I want to spread the news about our engagement/impending wedding. Can I send engagement announcements to everyone, even though I will not be inviting most of all of them? All my relatives live up North and I'm getting married in Arizona, so that was part of the thinking behind having a small wedding/reception, we know that most people won't make the trip.
Is it rude to tell someone we are engaged and then not invite them?
Welcome to the boards. I can understand wanting to share your happy news but I would recommend holding off and sending out a wedding announcement instead. You can avoid the oh so awkward "Thanks for the congratulations but you are not invited to the wedding" conversation but still share the news.
My fiance and I put an engagement annoucement in the newpaper. EVERYONE saw it, people my parents knew, people I graduated high school with... since your family lives up north, I don't know if you used to live there or not, but maybe if you know a newpaper that is distributed up there that many of your family members will read, you could put an annoucement in the paper.
