Decorating the Ceremony
Posted: Mar 25, 2009 2:51 PM

We are getting married in my home church and unfortunately found out that we can't use the old sanctuary and must do the ceremony in the new one. What I love about the OS was that is was narrow and long whereas the new sancuary is wider and doesn't feel intimate. So now I am stuck trying to figure out how to decorate this huge space. Our wedding is a jazz theme and I'm working on a budget, so DIY projects are welcome, along with simple tricks to making a big space look small. Please help...

Dear Aly,

Talk to someone in the church about achieving the "intimate" feel with the creative use of lighting. Can you light up the front, center part and leave the rest in darkness? Then, just decorate the front center area.

Thanks. I'll talk to them and see what we can figure out.

IMHO the ceremony doesn't have to be quite as decorated as the reception hall. The focus is on the vows, and I think lots of decor takes away from the importance of the moment.

However, I have to admit that my post is mostly to tell you how cool your profile picture is... very powerful!!
