My fiance and I have decided to have a DW in Jamaica. I don't have a clue where to start. Any suggestions? Please help!

It all depends on budget? when? where? if kids are invited? is it just the 2 of you?

I'm actually a groom and my FW are are all reserved and confirmed for Riu in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. We are still over a year out, so there are some details we don't need to worry about right now.

We have been working with Tammy Levent with Elite Travel and she has been very helpful... her and her staff.

I do understand the frustration. It's hard to make up your mind when it comes to places and all of that kind of stuff. My suggestion is talk to a travel agent that has worked with other destination wedding couples. Thay are more then happy to work with you and even help you pick the right place since there is a good chance they have been there themselves.

Best of Luck, and if you pick the same date as us (March 27th, 2010) and the same hotel (Riu, Ocho Rios) we'll see you on the beach. Our wedding will be the coveted 4pm wedding.

Thank you so much for your input! I've talked to an agent, but she said something about not being able to book right now because it is so far in advance.(June 2010) Congrats to you! Unfortunately we won't be there for your wedding! I guess I could move mine up a few months!(j/k)

I don't think it is too early for July. Get a second opinion. I love Jennifer at VIP Vacations. Have a look at their website and their destination wedding couples. www.travelbyvip.com and I believe I saw some there for 2010. OH and Jennifer is the girl that is often mentioned on here because she is always on the Travel Channel! She charges no fees and knows so much about Destination Weddings. Good Luck!

I'm thinking of going to Sandals Grande Ocho Rios since my dad has time share there. Otherwise we would not be able to afford such a beautiful place like that!

Congrats, My FH and I are also doing a DW in Jamaica, April 2010. Our travel agent is actually from Jamaica, so she knows a lot about the island. We decided to go with Ocho Rios, Sunset Jamaica Grande Spa and Resort. So far we have put a deposit down on our wedding package, this holds our date and time; next month we will be reserving a block of rooms for our guests. I have heard other brides say that their travel agent told them that it is too early to start and I guess it may be true depending on what resort you choice to go with. However, the wedding coordinator at the resort told me she will not be making specific wedding/reception plans with me until approx 6 months be before the wedding. Have fun making plans, let me know how things go.

Be Blessed!

Hello,

We are getting married Feb 10' at Beaches Negril in Jamaica. We are also using Jennifer from VIP Vacations, Inc. She is awesome! I definitely recommend her. I agree with the previous posts... are you going to have children? We don't have any children yet but we wanted our nieces and nephews to be with us on our wedding day so that is why we choose Beaches. We chose Negril because we actually just got engaged in Negril, Jamaica in January of this year. We stayed at Couples Negril and it was amazing! Couples is awesome. We would have gotten married there for sure but again we wanted our nieces and nephews to be there with us on the big day. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I don't think we are having any children attend, but we are having singles. I would love to do a couples, but the pass for each person that is not staying at the resort is expensive. Is Negril very nice? We have never been to Jamaica so it is new territory to us. Thank you for commenting.

I am getting married at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort in August 2009. I'm currently planning all the details for the wedding and reception with a coordinator at the resort. I'll let you know how it goes!!

Hello! I have not been on this site in quite a loong time! thought I would "stop by" and see what everone is up to.
I got married at the Riu Ocho Rios Jan 26, 2008. It was FANTASTIC!!!!
A few tips.....get a great travel agent (I used Tammy from Elite Travel....highly suggest using her!!!)
Tammy can work magic for you and make sure that your guests are treated like they are actually part of the wedding:-)
Second, if you can afford it, and your travel agent offers it, have her there for your wedding. That is my one regret, not having Tammy or someone from her staff there to help. The hotels offer a wedding coordinator, but I lacked the "personal" feel of the wedding planner that I was receiving months before my weddin gfrom Elite travel.
If you have any question, email me and I will try and help. A destination wedding should not be stressful. Enjoy!!!
