Hi; I posted before about my mom being a "momzilla." That hasn't changed much, but we're trying to put that aside for now and try to find a venue. We THINK we've narrowed it down to 2. Neither one are perfect, but they're nice in their own way. We're going for a natural, rustic, down-to-earth vibe at our wedding. It will be next September in Ohio. That said, can you guys give me your opinions on our venue choices? We are having a VERY hard time deciding! Pics below:

Agh sorry; pics didn't post, but if you follow the urls you can see them.

The first three are one venue and the two after that are the other venue.

With the first venue, we would be doing the ceremony in the backyard of the venue. With the second, we would be doing it onstage (Ahh! Sounds dirty. We will be doing the CEREMONY onstage!)

amazinggrace223 = I personally like this one- love the backround of the outdoors - I wasn't sure which one the reception would be in though. And what exactly are your colors?

With the last one, the reception would be in the shelterhouse-like pavilion that's attached to it. It's the second to last photo, if that gives you any idea. It's not the greatest shot, but basically, it has a cement floor and a wooden roof with open sides. My colors are burgundy, burnt orange, and copper.

Oh, I should probably add this extra info:

Both are extremely cheap. The indoor location has everything provided (tables, chairs, etc.) and they pretty much take care of things and make sure they run smoothly. They do a ton of weddings. With the outdoor location, we would have to bring our own tables, chairs, etc., and do all of the decorating. The outdoor location doesn't specialize in weddings (at all); it's actually closed for most of the year. This location would be difficult to get together, but very unique.

Both my fiance and I have been going over and over this for days. We can't seem to settle on anything!

You have plenty of time to plan, which is good. I love the second venue. It feels very rustic and natural. But you should be honest with yourself about whether you'll have the time and patience for a venue that's very do-it-yourself. If you do, then go for it. There are plenty of brides on here that can give you advice on DIY weddings. And if you have the patience for it, I think that venue would be so worth it.

The other venue, even though it's less striking IMO, seems like it would feel like a very relaxed, homey atmosphere, and since you say they hold weddings there regularly then that's a load off your shoulders. I can see why you're having a tough time making a decision.

I love the outdoor venue!!!! But I am also getting married outside, but my reception moves indoors. I think though it sounds like a lot of work. I think you really need to ask yourself the value of having everything taken care of for you? If you have the time and energy to put into the outdoors I say go for it. I love outdoor weddings I think they leave a lot of room to make everything very personal and there are tons of options without having to get very expensive with decorations. But chairs and tables, china, and all that can get very expensive. Maybe you should research how much all of that stuff costs and that could help you make a decision.

Whenever I come to decisions like this, I tend to let the money make the decision for me. (If I like them both about the same, of course.)

Have you called or done any online research on what rentals cost in your area? How big is yoru wedding? To give you an idea, this is what rentals were going to cost for me in SW Virginia.

Each dinner plate plate: $0.55
Each salad plate: 0.45
Each Fork/Spoon/Butter knife: 0.25
Each Table Cloth (90x156, so they go to the floor): $18.00

Now I was just at a wedding about two weekends ago where they decided that real china wasn't that important to them and they wanted something much mroe casual, so they went with a higher grade plate fork, disposable plates and paper table clothes. With your outdoor picnic pavillion that might have a tendency to kinda look like a fancy picnic. If you're going for a real casual laid back feeling, that might work out fine for you.

Any ideas on how you would decorate the outdoor pavillion? Here are a couple of concept photos:



In this one I really like the panels of fabric and the hanging flower pots. The area rugs do a lot for spiffing up the ground too.



Long white panels tied back and the big floor plants will probably be more expensive than the first, though muslin you can normally get on sale really cheap by the yard. I like the metal tables back there too!



Or you could treat it more like a tent. Wrap the colums with a pretty garland and do table cloths to the floor like this. It'd be a nice combo of rustic and elegant. :)

I hope all this has helped a little with the decision making process!

does the outdoor location have an option for bad weather? i wanted to get married outside also, and i ended up finding a venue that had a beautiful outdoor option, but also a good "fall back" plan for rain etc. and i agree that getting into rentals etc makes things waaaay more complicated. but also way more unique. it's totally up to you, but if it were me, i'd go with the indoor place, because it seems like less could go wrong..

Thanks for the advice, guys.

I checked out the rental prices here, and tables are about $7.00, chairs are $1.75, and plates and glasses are $.35.

If we go with the outdoor venue, we will decorate with a lot of candlelight, and hang paper lanterns and paper stars from the ceiling. If it rains, we can have the ceremony at my church, but we don't have a backup reception location.

I'm just being spun in so many different directions - I feel like everybody's trying to get me to pick a different venue! My mind's in a million different places. Once we get someplaced picked out, I hope it gets less stressful.
