I was wondering how far in advance should I make arrangements for the rehearsal dinner?
My only reservations with doing it now is I'm not sure what time I will be able to get into my ceremony location to do the actual rehearsal, so I don't want to set it up only to find out in conflicts with rehearsal time. But I don't want to wait to late either!
My friend is getting married in July, and still doesn't have her RD location booked. Everywhere she checks with is already booked up! So I would suggest you book within the next month for a September wedding.
My wedding is in September as well, and we had a similar situation since we don't know for sure what time the rehearsal will be at. But the place we booked with was nice enough to hold the whole evening for us with our deposit, and if anyone else contacts them and wants to book the same night then they will call us and require us to pick the time. So far, so good. Maybe you could see if your site would allow that.
Wow...my experience was totally different. How large was your RD, Gregsgirl, that you had to give a deposit to hold the place? All we did was call and make a reservation...which we did about 3 weeks ahead of time. (We had previously made a reservation at a different place, but they couldn't change our reservation time when the rehearsal time itself changed, so we had to change our location)
I'd wait to make RD plans until you have the rehearsal scheduled.
I like the flowers, so I'm keeping my useless ticker. Just married, 4/26/08!
My rehersal dinner is being catered by the Best Man and his 'significant other', and is being held right in the back of our church, which has a little café at the back. We're going for the night before the wedding, because FSiL can't come on a weekday, due to school and her children, and neither can one of FH's GM. Not only is the food going to be good, it's also going to be a fun night (our officiant is the most down-to-earth pastor I have ever met, and a blast). This is basically taking the place of the engagement party, as well, because my parents are too cheap to help us out.
Such is life.
I can't imagine having to put a deposit down for a rehersal dinner, though. Seems kind of... odd. Either that, or it's a large group of people.
